cabelas in hamburg pa

Recommended Posts

I recently went to cabelas because my friend wanted to buy a handgun, but hes still waiting for his FID card. so i took him there so we can check it out in person,

this is what he wanted : smith and wesson two tone m&p40

http://www.cabelas.c...%3Bcat105529680

salesman said no sale to nj residents because the gun holds 13 rounds and he said he cannot sell us anything over than 10 rounds, i know our state limit is 15 rounds. is there anything we can do to purchase this handgun from them ?

thanks in advance for the help.

The full size M&Ps are actually 17 round magazines, not 13.

Ask if they can swap the mags out for smaller (there are factory 15s and 10s), or if they will just send it to an FFL with the 17 round mags. FFLs can possess large capacity magazines and a number of them would likely be willing to modify them to 15 round magazines first.

Just curious as to why he wants to buy a handgun from Cabelas in PA though. It would have to be shipped to an NJ FFL anyway before he can take possession of it, so that right there adds $40-100 or so to the price for the transfer fee. Why not just buy it from a local FFL? This appears to be either S&W model # 150986 (9mm) or 150987 (.40 S&W).

Edit- the 9mm model is 17 rounds so the mags would have to be modified to swapped out for lower capacity. The .40 mags are 15 rounds and are good to go.

yep the cabelas salesman wrong..it is 15 rounds...why bother with them and the extra fees (theirs and NJ) do a firearms price request here on NJGF on top of page..maybe try forum sponsors..local dealers right on the forum... support them if the price is good...sometimes i'll shop at cabelas, then order at SS..got my Sigs etc in 3 days..

The gun he was looking at was 40 cal? Standard 40 cal is 15 rounds.

But in any case... if he wants it, just tell the guy to ship it to a dealer in NJ, as he cannot buy it in PA anyway. Handgun is only from homestate dealer.

I'm assuming your friend lives in NJ. You mentioned him waiting for his FID. Although you didn't mention it, I'm assuming he also applied for his P2P when he applied for the FID. A P2P is required for a NJ resident to purchase a handgun.

Why deal with an idiot? Do a forum price request. Look online at www.budsgunshop.com and www.gunbroker.com. M&P is not a rare gun. The two tone is out there.

I'd agree with this. All 3 of those are probably the best choices.

And agree with everyone else. If you have to ship it to an FFL if you buy it at Cabela's anyway, you might as well find it online and have it shipped. Odds are you'll get a cheaper price from the price request here or online anyway. I believe Buds offers free shipping on their guns.

Buy form a NJ dealer. you won't save much shopping the internet for an M&P so the only point is if you are having trouble finding one. Going to cabelas willd efinitely cost you more.

The SKU for the two tone FDE carry package in .40 is 150987

The SKU for the two tone FDE carry package in 9mm is 150986

Any dealer should be happy to order you the .40 sku as it has 15 round mags, which is the legal limit in NJ.

For the 9mm sku, you should ask if they will accept delivery of an item with over capacity mags and modify or sell without the mags. S&W DOES make 15 round 9mm mags. ( http://www.gandrtact...ction&key=39498 )

An unless you cna powder coat plastic, no, you can't have the frame powder coated.

I know a lot of your are suggesting buy locally but the webpage from the OP states its a "Cabelas Exclusive". Not sure exactly what that means because I don't shop their but that raised a red flag in my head when checking the link out.

Bayonets are fine on a bolt action rifle. Only on semi auto do the evil features apply.

If you want a mosin, sarco in easton is a good bet and a hell of a lot closer than harrisburg.

Since the OP shoots at RTSP, I know he's up north. He should try going to see Walt at Hackettstown Guns & Ammo, I know he had a bunch of Mosins for $99 or something like that not too long ago, and even if he's sold out I'm sure he could order one, good guy to deal with.

Me and the wife were shooting at rtsp yesterday and i asked this guy if he can get the gun for us but he said he couldnt find it in that color scheme. thanks for all the help guys, I e-mailed cabelas and a rep email me back and said if I can get a local FFL to call them and buy the gun from them they might be able to ship it here. I would rather get it locally of course but if i cant find it my friend might not have a choice.

Why waste a tank of gas and stand in line for 4 hours at Cabelas when you could go to a local gun store for about $20-25 bucks more and be out in a half hour. His call though..

Ain't that the truth. Last time I was there the line was a couple hours long and that was to just ask a question.

You were there on a weekend, right? Try on a Monday morning, or better yet on a Friday morning, when the ammo is still on the shelves!

And stop at the Winery and Dietrich's Meats (smokehouse) at Exit 40 (Rt. 737). And visit Dixon Muzzleloading just a few miles from Dietrich's via Rt. 737. Worth taking a day off for!

But everyone here is correct, much simpler to just order the gun from a NJ FFL!

But if you want to take the ride........

My wife & I spent the weekend in Lancaster, having justed purchased a Glock 23 gen 4 ( local dealer) I figured on the way home let's stop in at Cabelas & check out their prices. Not only was the gun $25 more but their prices on ammo sucked. Fun place to visit but that's about it

+1 for Dietrich's Meats (smokehouse) at Exit 40 (Rt. 737). I love that place. Which winery are you talking about?

Awesome place to visit! I need to go back and finish touring the store. It's neat to have ammo out where you can touch it and actually walk to the front of the store to buy it. No "escort", no book to write your FID # in.

The store is part musuem and we didn't get to see the entire place yet.

Going to bring a camera next time. Cell phone pics are ok but don't do the place justice.
