Burlington, VT -- Police no longer welcome at private range

Recommended Posts

It's unfortunate that it had to come to that though.

Interesting that the article mentioned that "The meeting was marked by a high turnout by the public, virtually all of whom were opposed to such a ban". Either the anti-2A folks missed the memo or the there really are not enough anti-2A folks there.

I do agree that it's unfortunate for the local PD but we've all been there -- Feeling helpless when a governing body makes decisions "on our behalf"

They saw a way to make a statement to the council -- maybe they got the point

It's nice that the range could give the finger to the town, but it's unfortunate that the local LEOs are the 'victims'. They really didn't do anything.

No they didn't. BUT they should be subject to the same laws as the rest of us- AS SHOULD CONGRESS- they are not "above" us. They WORK FOR US.

VT is pretty left leaning. If this came out of NH I would agree with you.

Oh I know how they vote in election, but their stance on any gun control IIFC remember correctly when someone proposed a national CCW license they didn't want to have anything to do with it being they don't require one to CCW or something to that effect.

Why is it unfortunate? The local LEOs are going to enforce the ban, aren't they? Unless the LEA came out against such a ban, or stated they wouldn't enforce it, that is exactly the response the range should have.

I posted a solidarity movement by non-municipal and privately owned ranges to limit PD use to once a week. Soft pressure...increased travel to other ranges, overtime, hotels, more scheduling issues, less training dollars available, etc. Mayors, business managers, chiefs will start getting insane.

If there isn't training, people don't make the grade in requals opens them up to HUGE lawsuits from defense attorneys. The first thing they want to see are training records and qualification results. Of course many are fudged, but enough will get thru.

Think pressure like a tree root. Slow steady over time...

Strange though - the Lamoille County gun range is quite a hike from Burlington - over an hour. There are other gun ranges closer to burlington. There's one 5 minutes away from my Parents' place in St Albans (45 mins from Burlington).

I'm not from there, and have only been there once, so this is just a guess; But maybe there are restrictions on the firearms (rifles) that are able to be used at ranges inside the city limits due to backstop concerns?

There are no ranges (that I know of) inside Burlington's city limits.

Because there's so much open space, there aren't really any more indoor gun ranges in Vermont. I remember there was one when I was a kid (man almost 20 years ago) that my dad went to sometimes, but that closed down a long time ago. Not sure what it's backstop was but it had a very nice backstop system that had water catch system.

vt has constitutional carry, and believe in it so much, they specifically do NOT issue any CCW permits at all. what they will give, is a letter from your local cop chief stating youre not a prohibited person and can legally carry, if you want to get another states CCW

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
