Another family hero from the last great generation passes

Recommended Posts

My Uncle Frank passed away in a VA hospital last week. He was 88. He had a colorful life and was a fun individual all the years I knew him. I will always cherish our hunting trips together, especially our week-long trips to Maine.

Frank honorably served his country during WWII in the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. His service included active duty during the invasion on D-Day as well as the Battle of the Bulge, and the invasion of Holland during Market Garden for which he was honored with a Bronze Star. After serving a tour of duty in Korea and over eight years of service he would return home for good and an Honorable discharge from the service with the rank of Captain. He will have a military funeral on Monday in Delaware.

Frank was the first avid gun collector in our extensive family that I can remember. He loved shotguns, so long as they were Italian and had the names Beretta, Bernadelli or Franchi stamped on them. He liked his S&W revolvers, especially the J & K frame .22's, his Colt .32ACP, his Baby Browning .25ACP and he also had an affection for early Ruger's and his Belgium Browning .22SA.

He will be missed in our family.

My family's condolences to your family. May his legacy live on in your heart. Write down as much as you can remember about him. Let your family know what sacrafices his generation made to protect all the families in these United States. Let them know it is up to them to maintain the course and remind them "Freedom is not Free". It must be guarded, protected and fought for from time to time.

Again, condolences.
