FPID References - Out of State?

Recommended Posts

Quick question.

I moved to NJ not to long ago so I'm not yet comfortable asking any of my in-state acquantinces for an FPID application references.

As such, will I get any grief if I list one of the references as out of state (e.g. NY or PA reference address)?

Thanks!

I've seen town applications that require the references to be in state and not employed by the town PD.  Can probably overcome that obstacle with a letter from NJ2AS

Yup, I've seen that as well as requiring they have to know you for at least X years. Sometimes combined, which seems really sketchy.

They cannot add conditions to the application. If it doesn't stipulate requirements, other than they not be related, on the STS-033 application, then they are illegal. You don't need a letter, just print out the statute and turn it in with your application and the references you want to use.

Of course.. Personally, I do my own wet work.  But some people prefer to speak softly and have a lawyer wave a big stick when dealing with a petty and spiteful municipal government.
