Incorrect. HR 218 / LEOSA states that current sworn LEO in good standing with their Dept, from any state may travel to any other state with pistol and CCW it. He just needs to keep his ID and badge on him while carrying. So, not only can he bring it, but he can carry it - including hollow point bullets if they are what is issued/approved by his PD. The only thing he has to follow is any mag restrictions the state he is traveling to has enacted. Mag restrictions are not covered under the act in its current form. http://www.leosaonline.com/ Now, Some departments have restrictions on bringing service weapons across state lines unless it is for official business - my agency has this. But I can bring personal guns that i have qualified with when I travel. I would advise him to run it by his supervisor or department legal counsel first - he wouldn't be breaking any state or federal laws but he could be violating department policy.

Coincidentally, I just got pulled over again this morning. I had just left my house, running late for work, and as I went a little too quickly up the hill around the corner from my house, I spotted the unmarked car of our local PD. When I saw him pull out, I immediately pulled over and got my documents ready. He was polite and professional, and when I explained my situation, he treated me kindly. I expressed my sincere gratitude. The unloaded shotgun in the back of my vehicle was never a subject of conversation.

I just got back from vacation in Hawaii and spent a day in Pearl Harbor. Toured the Missouri. Breathtaking. I can only imagine what it was like during battle. Awe inspiring? How about seeing your great-uncle's name engraved on the ships roster... I lost it right there.

THATS where you land the chopper. If a picture of an Iowa class firing all guns at once doesn't give every red blooded American male a raging erection, I don't know what will... Even as a submariner....I'll be in my bunk...

So I will backtrack a little.... So I sold the 88 GT in 1999, I just was not driving it, in fear of someone scratching it, or anything. The car was depreciating ...... I decided it was time for look for my first classic muscle car. IT was between 2 of my favorites.... First choice was a 67 Pontiac GTO, ever since I was 13, I had fallen in love with the looks of the car, and at this point, I learned to really appreciate the history and feel of Pontiac. Another thing is ..... if anyone knows GM history, was that Pontiac was known for their interior appointments, especially their dashboard layouts. My back-up choice if I came across the right one was a 69 Chevelle SS 396. My grandfather worked at a Chevy dealer when I was little, and had a 68 Chevelle 4-door...... so, just sort of a connection to that body style. I was married for 3 years at this point, and I was given the blessing from my wonderful wife to try and fulfill my dream.... so the search began.... For 2 years..... for a few hours nearly every night.... My requirements: 4 Speed NO A/C Power Steering Either White or Silver Clean driver that could be enjoyed right away, did not want a resto project. I would search the internet.... looking a normal classifieds and also Classic Car dealers throughout the country. The neat thing was, most of the Classic Car dealers had an inquiry feature, that if you did not see what you want, you submitted a request, and they would contact you if they came across what you were looking for.... At this point in my career, I was a Finance Manager @ Saturn of Denville. Well, one day as I came into work, my Used Car Manager came over to me with a note. It was regarding a Gray 67 GTO. He said this must be for you….. The message was from Debbie Greene from Greene’s Classic Cars in Knoxville TN. And she had the car I was looking for, a Gray 67 GTO. I thought it was a joke….. For 2 reasons. One, of all the dealers I had searched online, I could not recall ever going to that website, second reason…. GTO’s were not available in Gray, the closest would be a color called Silverglaze. But I called the number, and Debbie picked up, and quickly realized, this was real. I had to ask…. How she got my name and number…. Well, it seems I had just contacted an early Internet Hacker, she said she was able to infiltrate other dealers websites and look at their inquiries from customers…. To this day…. I have no idea how she did it. The next topic we covered was the color… She said it was indeed Gray, not Silver. She said it was a Special Order Color car. The original owner ordered the car 67 Buick Riviera Charcoal Gray. More detail followed. It was a numbers matching car, very original. Car was there on consignment from 4th owner. Had tons of documentation. Price was $15,500…. Which was about $3000 over my budget, but I asked her to send photos for me, which I included below. That night the wife and I looked at the pictures and noticed the name of the selling dealer matched her last name….. little spooky for us. At his point, I ordered the PHS documents which is a service that validates on how the car was built. It helps to see if the car is actually what the seller says it is. The info came back validating everything…. It was a true 1967 GTO that was equipped with the rare HO engine option and was also ordered under a Special Paint code…. Little background on Special Paint code cars…. Back then you could order your GM car any color from the GM palette. IF you ordered it a Pontiac NON-GTO color, the data plate on the firewall would have a “1” where the paint code would be stamped. IF you ordered a NON-Pontiac color, the data plate would be left blank. My car’s data plate is blank… So after a short discussion with wife, I left a $500 deposit on the car. That weekend, I hopped into my truck to drive to Knoxville to see the car in person. I arrived and it was waiting for me on their showroom floor. I spent at least an hour going all over that car on the showroom, and then they put it on a lift, where I spent another hour….. and then took it for a ride. I loved it, it was what I had been looking for. I called the wife and we discussed the over budget issue…. Her response…. “ If it's what you want….. get it” I will not hide the fact it was a very emotional moment for me….. I committed to the car, and Debbie Greene had a guy with a trailer on speed dial…. And within 2 hours… I was following my dream car home on Rt81 North… The car came with so much documentation it was amazing…. Original Window Sticker, Protecto-Plate, Deposit receipt when original owner ordered the car, receipt when owner picked up the car. EVERY service receipt from the Pontiac dealer when the car was serviced, from 1966 till 1986 when she sold the car at Carisle Fairgrounds. Now that I had the car in my garage, curiosity got the better of me, and I made it my mission to track down the original owner and talk to her…. So with the power of the internet and using the Service receipts, I found she was still living in the same house she lived in when she sold the car in 1986. I wrote her a letter and enclosed a current picture of the car. A few weeks later, she called. We spent an hour on the phone. I got all the details on the way she raced the car, and why the color. It was a great conversation… I asked why the color? She said she was on her way to Pontiac dealer to order the GTO and passed by a Buick showroom, and in the window was a Buick Riv in the Charcoal Gray, and fell in love with the color. You can see on the window sticker it was a $83.20 option for Special Color. She ordered the car Oct, 23 1966, I had just turned 1 year old the day before, and she picked it up right after Christmas. If you look at the window sticker, you can also see a few rare options. The most important one to me, the HO engine. Of the 80K GTO's built that year, only 12K were ordered with that engine. The Opera lights and Power Antenna were also considered rare options. I asked her if she remembered who she sold it to in 1986 at Carisle, but she could not recall, so that was a dead end. So I decided to work my way backwards. I reached out to the 4th owner, who I met at the dealer in TN when he brought down the title...... He said it he bought it from 2 brothers that buy and sell GTO's and other muscle cars as a business..... I was able to track them down. I wanted to find out who had restored the trunk pan and taillight panel. Once on the phone, I asked the guy if he could give me some information..... he curtly cut me off saying they had bought and sold so many GTO's over the years, he would never remember the car..... I said it was a 67 GTO in Charcoal Gray. He stopped dead cold and said..... Oh man, I remember that one, We NEVER should have sold that one..... We continued with a short conversation regarding the car. I will say, the 1st photo below makes the paint look better then it actually was in real life, as you will see in my next segment. The car at least 2 partial paint touchups, One was when the tailpanel was replaced and another one to help the painted surfaces that had faded over the years. The most original paint was near the front of the car below the pinstripe. In the sun, the car was 3 shades of Gray..... The interior was original..... nothing had been done, and it really could be left alone, if I wanted to, but I never leave anything alone....LOL At this point, my goal was to try and keep the car as original as possible, but making it enjoyable to drive..... for reasons that I will mention later, those thoughts changed.... I think that pretty much sums up this entry..... More to come

"Your" Outdoor Alliance? Me thinks that possibly renouncing your membership might be a good thing Naive Newbies (shooters) can be explained. Since this is NOT the first election cycle they've publicly supported SWINEY, it's long past time for the inept FUDD to get his/her head out of their asses and actually understand the Big Picture here!

I have never used an FFL in a private sale although that is a viable alternative. I always have permits in hand as others have suggested. I have run into situations where the one gun a month rule is the issue. I have had the seller just hold it for a week or so until the 30 days pass. Sometimes leave a deposit, sometimes pay in full. I have had a seller I've dealt with multiple times hold on to a gun for 2 months because I didn't have a permit. If I wanted to buy more than one from the same seller I have the seller fill out the paperwork. Sometimes give a deposit or even pay in full. If you're asking a seller to hold on to a gun for you, you just need to agree on terms that both of you feel comfortable with.

Always have permits on hand.... The second solution, if you run across a great F2F deal, have it sent to an FFL you have a GOOD relationship with. The forum is a GREAT place to start that. Typically your smaller FFL's will be okay with it. the other option, particularly if it is another forum member who has a good reputation/trader feedback score, pay for the gun, have them hold it until you get your permits. I have done both. Hope that helps.

Use your best judgement. Don't answer questions not asked. Be polite. Keep in mind the cop is just a guy or girl doing a job - It isn't personal. Whatever you do - Don't lie. The fastest way to Reasonable Suspicion is to get caught in a lie. From RS it is usually a short trip to PC.

Purple is fine, as is pink and yellow. It's like Jeeps, the color doesn't matter since the contents (or mods on the jeep) are more important.

That's the thing, we didn't invent some awesome new technologies since the 80s. About the only thing that really started being done more was blended powders, which is mostly in other round than pistol SD rounds. What really happened was the FBI developed a well defined set of criteria after blaming their gear for an event primarily driven by a series of procedural fuckups against determined individuals. Develop a test and everything on the market starts to converge to the year criteria of possible. Which is what happened.

HAHAH yeah I know i'm really a lousy party crasher here. I do enjoy the debate though! It would take us between 2-3 years to build a new battleship, based on past experience. In that time, how many bombers and half ton bombs would we build? If it takes 2000 seamen to run a battleship, you could conceivably have 2000 planes with a couple bombs each. You have three years to train your pilots, build the planes, and ordinance. In the end you either have one big ship, or thousands of planes and skilled pilots. Having said that, I would pay good money to be on a battleship when they fired a full salvo!!!

Problem with NJ gun owners are we are as diverse as our population. We have gun owners that are fall with all political parties. while most do lean right there are some that no doubt lean left from our perspective but are centrists according to them. The other problem is people complain a lot but don't get out and vote, Donate to candidates that support the 2nd AD. We cant beat the left in NJ by going for the gold. We need to Baby Step it... Target 1 candidate at a time. This is the only way to give us a chance.

True but I don't think someone carrying under LEOSA would be prosecuted under GFSZA for just driving by the school. If you read the wording of the act it only exempts LEOs while in official performance of their duties. If you want to interpret the GFSZA strictly that would mean an off duty NJ LEO couldn't drive by a school armed. He or she would have to stop, unload and secure the firearm and continue until they were 1000 ft away on the other end. I've seen maps of Elizabeth and Newark with 1000 feet of a school zone marked. There's no way you can go through either of those cities (or most cities for that matter) if you were a off duty LEO in the state and not be in violation. If you're a retired LEO in NJ and have a RPO carry permit GFSZA exempts you from the 1000 feet but state law (as permitted by LEOSA) prohibits carry on school grounds or buildings. LEOSA has no mention of the GFSZA or schools for that matter IIRC. It allows the state to prohibit firearms in or on government owned property. I'm not saying on school grounds but driving by shouldn't be an issue.

The way I understand it (remember, I'm a submariner, so I'm limited what I know about the surface navy), the cruise missle killed the big iron. A monkey can put a Tomahawk or Harpoon missle on target, and you can carry a metric assload of them on various different types of platforms (including submarines). The range on a cruise missle is MUCH greater, too. The sheer shock and awe from a battleship, however, will likely never be matched. Extremely impressive.

Yes, they would charge for Nics + Transfer typically, since the gun would be on their books. It is cheap insurance versus passing up a really good deal or a rare gun. $40 is quite reasonable. Well, if on a different forum, I would not leave them with the gun there since no one knows those people. Here, after time you develop relationships and trust folks. =)

The fighter jet with long range air to surface missiles killed the battleship... that and high altitude precision bombers. As far as effectiveness... a ship 1/4 the size can pack on cruise missiles and be every bit as lethal. They are totally awesome, but big limitations. Heck, where the hell do you land the chopper??

Rot starting on the bottom? Sounds like a cal/mag deficiency sometimes called bottom rot if it's starting on the bottom. Dilute epson salt into a gallon of water and pour around the root area of each plant before the tomatoes are ripening. Peppers are also subject to this. What kind of topsoil? Better to get a planting mix than cheap topsoil. Also check the PH of your water and soil. If they are off it can lock nutrients out of your plants so no matter what fertilizer you put down it won't get into the plants. I went with raised beds this year and spent some coin on a good quality planting mix. My garden is already exploding. As for fertilizer I went with Fox Farm nutrients a few years ago and could not be happier with the results. I belive midwest px went with Fox farms last year and had great results as well. Before fox farms I used garden tone with decent results.

The Guardian is in the house! Here are some pics for those interested. Rifle locks up like a bank vault. It just wreaks of precision manufacturing. If anyone would like to discuss how to make this rifle theirs, please reach out to me. If you would like to see it, it is on display at the store. The Atlas Bipod is not included with the rifle (Its my personal Bipod) but it could be added to the sale if someone had to have it. Not pictured but included is a very nice Drag Bag from Cadex. A Cadex rifle owner just recently posted up whacking some smallish steel targets at 1100 yards with his own Guardian in 6.5CM .

The last time the Navy got the Iowas out of mothballs during the Reagan 80's they had to find a Firing Officer to command the 3 gun turrets, so they made use of a little known clause in fine print on discharge papers and got a 50+ year old guy pressed into service (conscripted) so he could train his replacement! Those 16" .50 caliber rifles can fire a 2,800 pound HE shell almost 30 miles. By varying the amount of powder bags and rifle angle, three salvos could be fired at a target in such a way as to have 27 shells all land in approx. a football field AT THE SAME TIME!

We are discussing things on a forum. Not writing a history book. If I were I would double check my info. I guess you have never made a mistake. Okay I erred. However I corrected myself in the subsequent post. It was Colts not S&W. The fact is they had 10mm handguns. I took a hit for the 10mm MP5 although I may not be wrong. Yes, military and LE have different needs. Do you expect everyone on the House appropriations committee to understand them? If you recall correctly Sig won the first round of tests for the 9mm, they were cancelled and Beretta won the contract. Many strange things happen in government when you're asking for money to spend. The FBI of course never made a mistake. Back in the 70s their ammo tests showed the 95 gr RP JHP "high velocity" 38 load worked the best. That wasn't reflected in actual use though. My sources were guys involved in the testing. Yes, as the head of the firearms unit Hall okayed the final report. So it contained what he wanted. You can listen to him. You don't have to listen to my sources. Oh yes, to be clear. Sources say Mireles had a 686 and Platt a 586. Look at the Wiki entry for one. It really doesn't make a difference unless you're writing the investigation report. The finish has no effect on the gun's performance. Suffice it to say it was a L frame. We can agree on that. I'm guessing you've never been in a confrontational situation. You don't remember everything. There were no dash cams in those days. One has to reconstruct as best as possible from what people involved did. How are you so sure Platt was moving much more slowly when Mireles shot him? From the TV movie? Everything goes slow mo in a fight. You can look that up if you don't believe me. You can think I'm just an old man with short term memory issues and have no idea what he's talking about. And you would be wrong. As for cracked S&W frames I'm guessing you didn't look hard enough. I never said it was a common occurrence but common enough to be a concern. Just like the slide separations on M9s. I've never claimed to know everything. I'm too smart to say that. I don't know where you get off saying I have a pompous attitude. I never said I'm always right. If it makes you feel powerful and intelligent to do research to sharpshoot me on things that I'm recalling from 30 years ago have at it. A 4" 357 is the best all around handgun IMO. I never said you can deal with everything with it. Most things. Very good for SD against bad guys. I'd prefer something bigger if I had to contend with grizzlies for example. You like a 44 Magnum. That's okay but what do you base that selection on? A 44 mag has less recoil and muzzle blast than a 357? A 48 oz M29 shooting a 240 gr bullet has less recoil than a 45 oz GP100 shooting a 158 gr bullet? Does your 44 defy the laws of physics? If a 44 mag is the ideal handgun for SD why isn't there a single agency or organization that has EVER issued it as primary handgun? Are you basing your choice of a 44 on your extensive gunfighting experience? A full charge 44 is pretty much overkill as a SD handgun. You think a 9mm out of a 2" is a better round than a 38 +P. I dont. But I'm old so what can I know? Think what you want. I don't care. I'm old enough to know I can't please everyone. I've been that way for some time now.
