Self taught or took a class?

Recommended Posts

Self taught, bought my first pistol in '66, my brother gave me his .22 auto rifle when he came out of the service in '69. Shot very, very little since '70. Ffast Forward to 2007 and my son decides he wants to take up shooting so we start all over from scratch.

As a youth in Hunterdon County there was much plinking, but over the past two years I've taken NRA basic pistol and just today Basic Rifle at Gun For Hire in Belleville, NJ with Anthony Colandro.

I've read books and internets, but there is nothing like having an affable and professional instructor give direction. (and tases when necessary) :D

I'm kind of a hybrid.... I had a bunch of informal training from my mentor (VA State Police Sgt.) I also consider the 5 minute living room lesson on how to "properly" draw from the holster I received from my friend's brother informal training (Navy SEAL, came back from Cali to visit fam. had to take advantage of the situation :D ) . I also jumped on any formal classes offered by the PD down at school (Basic Firearms Course, Basic Pistol Course, Defensive Pistol Course)
