I guess if you can't afford ~$500 you can't exercise your right to defend yourself!

I'm currently in the process of submitting my NJ CCW paperwork. I'm a single father and had to put out almost $500 just to exercise my constitutional right! What happens to all the people that can't afford to put out almost $500 EVERY TWO YEARS? Do they not get the right to self preservation?

  • $200 Township/State Police permitting fees
  • Qualification $150
  • Fingerprinting $66.05
  • Photos $32

NJ will continue, with all conscious and deliberative intent, to make this process as costly... cumbersome... and confusing as possible. You can take that to the bank. They don't WANT you to carry!  They prefer to punish you, the law-abiding, while - for instance - setting aside millions to provide people who came here illegally with fully funded legal services...or, doing away with cash bail so that common criminals can be released back onto the streets as rapidly as possible.  This is a truly ass-backwards state!

Meanwhile, if you DON'T have a NJ PTC, and brandish a handgun during an argument in a casino, or shoot bb guns out of cars at people while carrying illegal "ghost" guns in the car, you get.....parole:

That's the plan.  When middle aged white women clutch their pearls and cry out about "those" dangerous people with guns they aren't thinking about their neighbors in the suburbs.

Those middle age white women are thinking about the people who don't look like them and are more likely to live in lower income neighborhoods.

It's about keeping guns away from "those people" more than it is about keeping guns away from "people".

There was a segment on GFH radio yesterday where Sandy and Anthony commented on NJ people caving in and going along with  unconstitutional things in this state. Well, this is just another example. So many now are tripping over themselves to procure their PTC.

Before that we were making multiple trips to the local gun shop just to first buy a firearm, wait for the NICS to clear, then go back to the store to pick it up! When did it change from buy a gun and wait for NJSP NICS to clear you in fifteen minutes? And if you want some ammo now with that purchase, you must pay an additional $1.50 so your info is logged accordingly with the NJSP.  WTF!

For me this is a hard pass.  I’ll wait til I move to a constitutional carry state, where the color of the ink isn’t a criteria on an concealed carry application.

Respectfully, if nobody went through the process it wouldn't exist.

Yes the system is flawed and can be expensive, but the more people that force the issue now, the more it will benefit everyone later.

If there were only a handful of people applying it would be easy for the courts, police, and Murphy to simply let the option to CCW die on the vine...

I hear you and feel your pain.  I now realize I made the situation worse with a bad decision:

Classroom Instruction/Use of Force/Qualification   $325  (It pays to do some research beforehand).
            Township/State Police permit fee     $200
            Fingerprinting  $65
            Ammunition   $50

What I can't calculate is how much the liability insurance will cost if that requirement is not repealed.  Anyway, I stopped spending after I completed classroom/use of force/qualification.  Instead of Murph getting my permit fee, I'm sending it to ANJRPC.

You didnt make a bad decision.  Whatever your training and qualification cost was will aid in your being better qualified and equipped with knowledge you never had. That is worth its; weight in gold.  You also add to the roles of the permitted,  which will show in a year or so how wrong they were/are.

No, I can't add myself to the roles of the permitted, because I only completed the course/qualification course at $325.  But ANJRPC is still getting my donation so maybe they can help other folks.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in

    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
