NJGF Clay Shoot Out??

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone would be interested in a group get together for some clay shootin.. I go every November to a place in PA with some family, Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays http://www.lvsclays.com/. While it's not right around the corner for most of us, it's a pretty nice place to shoot if you haven't been there, and it's not that far.. The place is HUGE, and it would be a blast to get a big group together.. You rent golf carts to get around the course.. they give you remotes to throw the clays

You shoot into old buildings, across a Quarry and other stuff..

So, any interest? maybe we could get a preliminary list of who would like to go and then set up some dates? Maybe a Sunday? July?

I've never shot any sporting clays, and would love to give it a try.

A big group meet there sounds like it would be fun.

If it comes together, I'm definitely in.

me: Honey, I need a shotgun.

kristen: why?

me: Don made me do it?

kristen: starts pullin out the frying pan to hit me over the head...... :deadhorse:

Thats the thing, you don't NEED one, only 1 person at a time shooting anyway :D , however, if thats your story, then i will stick to it as well..

Well if I could use a members rifle shotgun and pay for my own ammo, that would be cool. Would sure save me some dough.

I can't speak for everyone, but you're welcome to use one of mine.

Just wanted to add, was there last month. That place is great

Unless you already own a great over-under, rent one there. not expensive.

Three of us: one cart, 100 rounds each, one Beretta Onyx, one round= $71 each

They apoligized for the brand new gun being too stiff.

If I can make it, I would love to go again if someone doesn't mind me riding with them.

So we're talking about having the July Sunday event at Lehigh?

Thats the idea so far, looking more like the 25th, we can always move it to August if need be.. does this work for you?

I'll have to play it by ear. I've got a Germany work trip at some point in later July/early August and I've got some scheduled boat weekends in New Gretna but if I'm home, I'll go.

I work every other weekend, July 25th is my weekend to work. I'm not sure if I'd be able to make it either way but if it does go down a different day I'll try.

Hey, I'd be interested in going. Any weekend is good for me as long as I have a heads up. I don't have a shotgun of my own and I've never shot clay targets but I'm willing to learn.

We'll be shooting clays on Sunday. You should consider coming up to Cherry Ridge Sunday and shooting with the NJGF guys. Just bring some 12ga #7-1/2 or #8. There will be plenty of guns to shoot. You'd have to get guested in for this month anyway, cost of $25/day.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
