Hello from Monroe Twp/Williamstown

So a friend I and were talking about guns one day, and I started to do some research, found this website among others, and really started to get into it. Long story short, My PD ended up taking 46 days for my FID and 1 pistol permit, and I got a Ruger Mark III.

 

I have had so much fun with this new hobby, it is so much fun.

 

I have already had to ship the Mark III back to Ruger due to part of the barrel shearing off. They shaved down the problem area, and it works fine now. They also had to replace the rear sight, because the pivot pin kept coming out due to recoil. All free of charge.

I then had to use some loc-tite on the front site, because that also kept unscrewing due to recoil.

 

After I got that all sorted out, the gun is a blast to shoot, and easy to clean. At 10 yards, I can keep most of the shots within a 2-3 inch grouping after 1200 rounds.

 

While my wife bought a Beretta 92fs, I got a Ruger 10/22, and both of them have been amazing to shoot so far.

(The reason I keep getting 22's is for price. I can throw a lot more ammo down range than anything else, for a fraction of the price.)

 

Couple questions,

What grouping sizes should I be looking at 10-15 yards with a pistol, and then at 15-25 yards with a rifle?

I've been shooting at Bobs Little Sport Shop in Glassboro, and they have been amazing, but I was looking to go farther out. At the WMA shooting ranges, I need a hunting permit and what else? Something to hold the targets up right?

Does anybody sell 15 rnd magazines for the 10/22? I only see 20 rounders which are no good in NJ...

Welcome to the forum.

 

Grouping will depend on a number of factors, including gun type, ammo type, and how you are shooting it, off of a rest, etc.

 

however... by far the biggest detriment to gun accuracy is usually the guy behind the firearm. =) Most guns are far more accurate than we can shoot them.

 

at 10 to 15 yards, no reason why you can have them all touching with a handgun, and with a rifle, should be one hole if the shooter is doing his job. =)

Hey Crowbar,

I'm from the area and also shoot at Bob's. As far as ranges in our area, I find them the most helpful and friendly, and affordable.

 

I don't know much about WMA, only have a handgun as of now, so a membership to Bob's is enough for me. If I am able to get into long guns, I'll be checking out the requirements for WMA as well.

Greetings from a former Cecil resident. Yes, I got out of the lakes as soon as I could.

Wow Cecil ??? Havent heard anyone say that in a while , i grew up off of Sunset ave and my brother actualy went to the old cecil school that was on the corner of Whitehall rd and i too got out of the lakes as soon as i could

Gunnyr, I plan to do an appleseed shoot to be able to get my cmp garand.

 

During then, I figure ill be able to get a good feel for how an outdoor range works, and see if I want a membership there, since its so close to me. (15 mins)

New membership year starts October 1 at SJSC

Single is $225 plus tax

 

You'll really like shooting your 10/22 on the 100 yd range there

Oh, and no handguns on WMA (those that still have firearms ranges open)

Shotgun and .22 rifle only

Valid hunting license is your ticket in

Hey Crowbar come check out the Quninton Sportsmans Club in LAC TWP.

http://www.quintonsportsmensclub.com/ This where I am a member, they have a fantastic facility, the club meets on the 3rd Mon. of the month. We have 3 ranges pistol, rifle(200 yrds), and a combo. as well as trap, and archery. $86/year to belong.
