zoid 24 Posted February 14, 2012 Can you guys recommend me a decent handgun cleaning kit that is small and portable? I just want something to have when I stay away from home. I did some online research and some things come up but wanted some local reviews/thoughts.

msg73 1 Posted February 14, 2012 I assume this is when you're staying up in Bergen county. If so and you don't need ultra small/portable, gander mountain is having a sale on one. $12.50 and free shipping. I just ordered one myself. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=450791&pdesc=Outers_28_Piece_Universal_Economy_Wooden_Cleaning_Kit Mike (Guy with the Spartan at Tenafly)

henrym 19 Posted February 14, 2012 I keep this on the strap of my bag http://www.otisgun.c...E717B4E656E7CDA So do I. Its a great cleaning kit, albeit a little expensive. I think its worth it though.
JackDaWack 2,895 Posted February 14, 2012 I was going to recommend the otis kit, actually if u buy the elite kit... you get the small carry kit with it. SO you end up with a complete kit w/ bag and everything u would ever possibly need + the small carry bag. http://www.otisgun.c...942452A4E83C9CF You can find their products much cheaper then what they advertise, i bought mine for like 80 bucks. I personally think its the best value kit otis makes. http://shop.gunsfish...ush-P14967.aspx I opted for the law enforcement kit, since it comes with all the calibers i shoot. MandM 2 Posted February 15, 2012 +1 for Otis. I have an Otis Tactical. (Usually can find it for like $35 - $40) Buy 1 kit... use it for everything. They're a bit more $$ than say a Hoppe's or Remington etc kit or something... but they're worth it. High quality parts, everything you need from .17 to .50 (and shotguns) and all in a small package about the size of 2 skoal tins.

axeman_g 128 Posted February 15, 2012 I have used this for ten years. I dopped a .22lr brush and a .45acp brush in the handle also. Throw this in a ziploc bag with a small bottle of CLP, some patches and I have not wanted for anything else since. http://www.amazon.co...7VCN7K4TSC3EFVG

Caine 147 Posted February 16, 2012 Another vote for Otis. Great kit to throw into your range bag I have used this for ten years. I dopped a .22lr brush and a .45acp brush in the handle also. Throw this in a ziploc bag with a small bottle of CLP, some patches and I have not wanted for anything else since. http://www.amazon.co...7VCN7K4TSC3EFVG That's a pretty neat little kit. Might have to pick one of those up.
Gorilla800lbs 12 Posted February 17, 2012 I picked a Tetra-Gun brand cleaning kit for $14.99, I believe, at Ramsey Outdoor in Paramus. I probably could have spend much more, but frankly I see no reason to. It comes with barrel rod, a screw-on caliber specific brush, a screw on patch eyelet, a vial of lube, a bottle of solvent, and a small box patch of patches. Everything comes in a plastic box, as opposed to a bag, pouch, or blister pack, which factored as a plus in my view. There is enough room at the bottom of the box to throw in additional items (Q-tips and bore-snake). I recommend to check it out. When the solvent runs out, I'll refill the bottle from a Hoppe #9 big bottle I bought separately. The kit bottle has a convenient eyedropper tip, whereas Hoppe's doesn't. Seems like it can take a bit more of a beating since it's a hard case. The Otis one is nice as well.
SpacemanFry 51 Posted February 19, 2012 +1 for the Otis kit. I keep the little Tactical one in my range bag and I use the bigger elite kit at home. Works great.
