Xchange1980 0 Posted December 4, 2012 It's been like X-Mass the past few weeks at my place. Started with a over sized pretty fast r/c car. That's a D battery Bought some led's and solder Get a good 3-Cell Lipo battery you can get them on ebay for about $79 for a good one and you will go from doing about 25mph to 45-50 mph. And I must warn you now its addictive, and you're gaurenteed to break parts like within the first day or 2 of playing with it. But everytime you break a plastic part replace it with the aftermarket aluminum parts I. have the Stampede VXL and with some gear changes you can get them up to 80+mph

Otherwise you have the chance to over drain the lipo and cause it to fail. As for going to alum replacement parts, it's true you ca, but I would go with RPM parts. They are a nylon blend that will give a little and return to normal shape. If you do happen to break one, RPM will replace for free if you have your sales receipts. I did the hobby grade hobby for years and loved it. Just ran out of time and space to run 1/5 scale gas powered baja trucks. If you want lipos, go to Hobbyking.com - I've gotten a ton of cheap lipos from them - they work awesome. . Plus 1 on hobby king for cheap electronics, just be sure to select a US warehouse or you could wait a fair amount of time for the item. I learned that the hard way... One_crazy_dude 1 Posted December 5, 2012 It is an addiction is right. Not only do I like to tear things down but up grading is got me going nuts. The first day I took it out I broke the front caster in like 10 minutes with the stock 7 cell batt that comes with it. Did some online reading and found out about the company rpm. Got the bumper And the casters All has been good so did some mor on line reading and ordered some 2 cell li-po and a balancing charger "which has brought new life to all the rechargeable batteries I have for flashlights and toy's" The speed controll I have I don't think wil Handel a 3 cell lipo. I know it won't take nothing over 9.6 volts. I also made some LEDs for night driving. Thought this was cool. I'm going for another shoulder surgery in a week and haven't been to the range since July/August from the first surgery. I have been so board but this car has been so entertaining and time consuming that I FREAKING LOVE IT.

NJSigfan 218 Posted December 5, 2012 One_crazy_dude, it's not a matter of volts to the ESC, it's the low voltage cut off. Lipos have a constant discharge rate, not like dry cells that start high and bleed off as you use them. Picture an inverted graph line and should get an idea of what you mean. Lipos will run at the same discharge level and then drop off pretty quickly. A LVC will shut down the ESC and keep you from over draining the battery. I can't remember if your model ESC has one or not, but you can check the traxxas forum or rcnitrotalk.com. The latter being a better more open forum... I do have the lipo cut off and have it on. These ecu's are so easy to use and figure out. Either way I'm pretty happy. The lipo's I have are 4500 mah and last much longer than the stock battery. With the lipo I dident notice any speed increase, the car is stock to do 35+ and I believe it does it. It's fast. But the torque is crazy. It tears through the grass and dirt and just climbs over Obstacles that the car had trouble or couldn't do like climb up curbs. It just dident have the power on stock batteries. I just have to say this is a good Alternative hobby for me cause I can work on it inside, it's waterproof so rain snow I can still play with it. My brother has a traxxas 4wheel drive slash(?) (and 7 or 8 others) that he made brushless with a 3 cell lipo and its just crazy fast and climbing power is insane. But he keeps breaking the rear axels. For 60 bucks he can get a set of aluminum/steal (?) I'll own something like that one day but for now it learning period and ill work this car till no more upgrade can be done then work on the 4 wheel trucks. Thanks for the heads up on the lipo's, I've also online reading being I have a lot of time on my hands( which is bad cause I have time to order more things too) Later
NJSigfan 218 Posted December 5, 2012 RC cars are definitely a great hobby. It was a blast when I was more into it. One last piece of advise with lipos, be sure to watch them when you charge them. If you over charge therm, they can overheat and cause a fire.
Sell682 1 Posted December 5, 2012 I use an empty ammo can to store lipos for my heli. nice piece of mind. RC is a very addictive hobby and as you get more into it you will want to get into the Losi, AE , X-ray line of cars and trucks. Consider these build your own kits. Like a stripped lower. You purchase the electronics, motor, radio , tires you want. A lot of great shops around the area for all your needs.

And when the time comes you can upgrade the motor and ESC if you wanna really get it rippin. there are more expensive ones like mamba monsters etc... but a cheaper upgrade would be the Velineon system that comes on the VXL versions of traxxas cars/tucks and then you could run a 3C 11.1 volt lipo

Wojo 98 Posted December 10, 2012 gun buggy. looked in midway and a few other places, sportsmans had the best price plus free shipping. http://www.sportsman...y.aspx?a=910120 I like that for Comp Shooting. I used a modified wire shopping (yes little old lady kind) that I ordered in all black with mag wheels, but the wheels on this are better for the rough terrain. The dedicated shooting carts are crazy money last I checked like $400 which is why I went with a $65 modified shopping cart.
