H.M. Murdock 0 Posted January 18, 2013 Is nothing sacred? Vermont lawmakers to consider assault rifle ban http://www.sfgate.co...ban-4201516.php Leahy Hopeful For Passage Of Gun Control Measures http://www.vpr.net/n...ntrol-measures/ I'm regularly in VT and Life Is Good up there. I hope this isn't going anywhere. I don't know enough about VT politics to know if this is to be taken seriously. Anyone?
Soju 153 Posted January 18, 2013 This is unusual because Vermont doesn't have a history with pushing any sort of regulations on firearms, though oddly suppressors are illegal.
mipafox 438 Posted January 18, 2013 Is nothing sacred? How bout it. That's crazy for Vermont. But I don't know anything about their legislature, they might have one person that does this every year. Speaking from my ignorance. I hope it's not notable.
matyb123 0 Posted January 18, 2013 i remember reading that vermont was going to impose $500 fines on able and healthy citizens that did not own a firearm! lol
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 18, 2013 I'm sure many free state politicians and state officials are going to "consider" gun control laws and policies. Just because the media reports this doesn't mean anything will happen. Also, for as lenient as VT is with their gun laws, they surprisingly have a very small number of shooting ranges in the state. Ive been going up there a couple times every year for the past 5 years and ithe shortage is getting so bad that locals with land have been allowing fellow gun enthusiasts t o shoot on their own land. One of the state newspapers had a really interesting article on it. Maybe I'll look around for it, I specifically bought it because of that front page article. One of the state newspapers had a really interesting article on it. Maybe I'll look around for it, I specifically bought it because of that front page article. I would venture a guess that this is because most people who own land in VT shoot on their own property. I was recently in NH (I know its a totally diff state, but also has very lenient gun policies) and my gf and I enjoyed it so much that we looked into what property values were in the area. We were within driving distance to alot of major areas of the state, and you could still buy a nice house with ~50 acres of land for under 250k. If I had 50 acres I would be shooting in my back yard, not at a range lol.
NJCK 5 Posted January 18, 2013 Who needs a range when you have friends with serious acreage! My wife and I are VT regulars throughout the year camping in the warm and snowmobiling in the winter. Hope things don't change!
Krdshrk 3,882 Posted January 18, 2013 I grew up in VT and my parents still live there. It's the place I'm most likely to retreat to if things go to hell around here.... which it's looking more and more like each day unfortunately.

anactivegrenade 25 Posted January 18, 2013 Vermont has the LOWEST MURDER RATE IN THE COUNTRY. If this isn't some Big Brother-agenda to disarm people, then I don't know what is. I hope the citizens there aren't blind as the sheep are here.

bowbag 0 Posted January 18, 2013 I had always thought vermont was fairly restrictive on firearms. Much more then it's neighbor New Hampshire but after just brushing up in VT firearms laws I'm happy to say I was incorrect.

Other than that, they cool.
Pizza Bob 1,489 Posted January 19, 2013 Vermont is a very LIBERAL state. One of their senators ran on the Socialist ticket. It isn't that they are pro-gun, it is just that there are no gun laws at all - an AWB would be a first. As for the prohibiting suppressors, that is not a gun law, but a hunting statute - to prevent their us in poaching game. Adios, Pizza Bob

But I doubt you can get ATF to approve a Form 1 or Form 4 for a silencer if you live there. That is the end result. My understanding is ownership prohibited. If not true, please let me know. That is the only state I've hunted where deer will flee at the sight of a pickup truck. It dawned on me they must get shot at a lot. Those Green Mountains where I hunted are full of "Deliverance-types," and everyone claims to be an ancestor of one of the original Green Mountain Boys. Gotta love Vermont. jackandjill 683 Posted January 19, 2013 Remember Hoovers FBI from 60s. I am sure it has come long way since then. If Feds want something badly, they will get it done.
mipafox 438 Posted January 19, 2013 Well, you can hunt deer with a silencer here in PA. If you can find a deer. There are plenty here, but they don't wait to actually see the pickup truck before getting lost. 750,000 people on Day 1 of rifle season in a state of 13 million men, women, children, and babies. I would estimate that nearly a majority of schools are closed on First Day in PA.

mipafox 438 Posted January 19, 2013 Yes, under the Fish & Game laws of the state. You said that. So, ATF will not approve a Form 1 or Form 4, correct? You ignored that, and instead said the same thing you said previously.
Pizza Bob 1,489 Posted January 20, 2013 You said that. So, ATF will not approve a Form 1 or Form 4, correct? You ignored that, and instead said the same thing you said previously. I have no idea, but how is that relevant if they are prohibited under state (F&G) laws?
mipafox 438 Posted January 20, 2013 I have no idea, but how is that relevant if they are prohibited under state (F&G) laws? I'm totally confused. I you can't own them you can't own them, and you can't get ATF approval to make one or have one transferred to you. You can't own a silencer in the US without the ATF approving a form at some point. ATF knows where you are allowed to own them and won't approve where you can't.I said you can't own them in Vermont. Has that changed or not? It's very relevant to me whether or not you can own silencers in Vermont. It's the only thing I have discussed. If you can't own them, it is relevant. If you can, it is relevant. NicePants 58 Posted January 20, 2013 Same with NH. Sad to say; I was looking to relocate there for the longest time. Not so much anymore. The gun owners are flocking elsewhere. States like Arizona, Alaska, and several central and midwestern states are still hallowed ground as far as gun ownership goes and will be that way for the foreseeable future. If states like VT and NH started seeing an influx of gun owners from the crappy states, then things might change.
Parker 214 Posted January 20, 2013 The Green Mtn. folks are still very pro-gun. Some of those little towns there haven't lost their charm. Others have gone the way of outlet stores. America's favorite pastime: shopping.
