Gov Chrisite could announce his gun control package tomorrow

That is mostly BS. The last two elections were purposefully thrown by Republican heads that are on the same agenda path (secretly) of Obamanism. The Republics came out weak intentionally, and the talking heads that promoted that brilliant Republican plan are still in power. It's good cop/bad cop and we are all sitting in the interrogation room. America is already bankrupt. There is NO mathematical way to turn it around, so the clowns down there is Washington are trying to exert as much control as they can, hold onto as much power as they can, and to let us down as gently as they can....

The fact is that most people given a proper education, etc. and a healthy childhood, etc. gravitate to conservative values. What I am saying is that if you have a "great communicator" that can appeal to that innate conservative value system, then as has happened in the past, there would be a land slide. The flip side of this is that most liberals have some kind of mental deficiency. They have been marginalized, victimized, not taught to be independent, etc.. And, the powers that be want to promote that kind of mentality. But, with cogent thinking and logic, and someone that can express them, conservative views win. I am not talking about the radical right, I am talking about a conservative frame of mind with a libertarian slant. The people aren't fooled and they know that neither parties have any intention of putting forth conservative candidates that believe in a limited role of the government, and in concentrating the power with the people.

how does that refute what I said?

Isn't that already a requirement?

You are perhaps thinking NICS 4473.

Most of us do it. And NJSP says seller should have it.

But if you look at 2C:58-3, government photo id isn't there.

Chris Christie Unveils Sweeping Gun Control Plans

By Kevin McArdle April 19, 2013 4:55 PM

Gov. Chris Christie unveiled gun control and violence prevention measures that are as comprehensive as they are ambitious.

Governor Chris Christie announces a plan to strengthen existing gun laws and background checks, bolster criminal penalties and treat the root causes of mass violence. (Governor’s Office/Tim Larsen)

Christie acknowledges there is no way to prevent all violence in our society, but he says it is the job of government to question, to scrutinize and to demand more in an attempt to address the problem.

The plan calls for expanding New Jersey’s already strict gun control laws, expanding government-funded mental health treatment, making it more difficult for kids buy or rent violent video games, requiring that would-be gun owners show government-issued IDs and bolstering penalties for gun-related crimes.

“It’s hard for me to sit here today and say, ‘If all these things got imposed we’d see an ‘X’ percentage drop in gin violence in this state.’ I don’t know,” said Christie. “Bad people are going to do bad things and so, would greater penalties deter people? You hope they do.”

Expanding New Jersey’s Already Stringent Gun Control Measures:

New Jersey has the second toughest gun laws in the country. The first facet of Christie’s plan seeks to make them even stricter. This includes banning future purchases of the Barrett .50 Caliber; strengthening the state’s existing background check requirement by mandating that mental health records are included in the instant background check process at the time of a firearm purchase; and requiring firearms purchasers to present a valid government photo ID, along with the already mandatory Firearms Purchaser Identification Card.

Mental Health And Violence:

At the announcement of Christie’s NJ SAFE Taskforce in January in the aftermath of Newtown, he talked about targeting and treating the root causes of violence. Too many times there are instances of unspeakable tragedy and the question is asked how such tragedy could have been prevented. His proposals is this area include;

Making it easier for health professionals and courts to require potentially dangerous people to receive the treatment they need whether it is in the form of inpatient or outpatient care. This will allow the monitoring of their progress and ensure they are receiving the kind of specific care they need.

Creating flexibility in the type of care an individual is receiving, making it easier for someone to move from inpatient to outpatient settings.

Changing the current standard of involuntary outpatient treatment to eliminate the uncertainty expressed by clinicians and courts regarding their authority to order this type of essential assistance.

Limiting Kids’ Access To Violent Video Games:

According to the Governor, too often lost in the debate about controlling gun violence in our society is the almost constant exposure young children and adults have to graphic violence. Part-three of his plan includes;

Requiring that retailers post at the point of sale the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ERSB) ratings. Additionally, requiring retailers to develop, maintain and conspicuously display their policy on selling video games with an M or AO rating.

Requiring Consent of a Legal Guardian. This is not different than the kind of parental supervision expected when a child under the age of 18 goes to see an R rated movie, Christie is requiring that a legal guardian provide consent when a minor purchases or rents a video game that has a rating of “Mature” or “Adult Only.”

Increasing Penalties For Gun-Related Crimes:

In a series of bills Christie seeks to impose or strengthen criminal penalties when it comes to selling firearms to convicted criminals, possessing a firearm with the intent to unlawfully transfer, hiring a “straw purchaser,” unlawfully possessing ammunition and engaging in firearms trafficking, among other areas. In addition, Governor Christie is seeking to reform bail laws for gun-related crimes by restricting the release on bail for aggravated firearms offenses and increasing bail requirements for aggravated firearms crimes.

How far did he go with mental health stuff? Did he mean adding records of state adjudicated mental health cases, or ALL mental health records, as in including anyone who has ever taken anti-anxiety pills or other sorts of medication?

This is what I heard too. I listened to him twice.

I wrote him and asked if he knew of any crimes committed with 50cal weapons and why there is such an urgent need to ban them.

Most of what he talked about was involuntary commitment and violent video games. He also wanted to upgrade some offenses to 4th degree felonies. No idea how much mental health stuff he wanted to add.

A) Banning of future purchase of Barret 50 caliber

Does that mean if you have a Barrett .50 BMG now, you're golden? (Except for a NJ range you can drive out on to set up your targets.)

Christie Seeks Expanded Gun Laws

By Sharon Adarlo

Gov. Chris Christie proposed new legislation Friday designed to curb gun violence that expands existing gun laws and mandatory mental health screenings and requires parental consent for juveniles buying violent video game.

The announcement comes after a panel appointed by the governor released an 83-page report last week that offered recommendations on school safety and firearms to mental illness. Christie formed the panel after the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Conn., last year.

“There’s no mistaking violence is a problem in America,” said Christie, who also acknowledged the Boston Marathon bombings in his initial remarks. “I believe we can address not only the effects of violence in our society and also some of the root causes.”

The new proposals include requiring mental health records to be part of the background check process at the time of a firearm purchase, Christie said. The records would be part of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System that purchasers go through before receiving a weapon, Christie said.

Firearm purchasers would also be required to show a government-issued identification card before purchasing a weapon, Christie said. Other proposals include the banning of future purchases of the Barrett .50 caliber rifle.

On mental illness, Christie said he wants mandatory health screenings for people in crisis. The proposals also include making it easier for doctors or the courts to involuntarily commit potentially dangerous patients and offering flexibility in treatment for them.

On video games, retailers would require the consent of parents or legal guardians before a child rents or purchases a video game that’s intended for a mature audience.

Christie also proposed penalties on knowingly selling firearms to convicted criminals; possessing a forearm with intent to unlawfully transfer; hiring a straw purchaser; unlawfully possessing of ammunition; tampering with firearms documents, and lying on those documents. Other proposals include upgrading sentencing for firearms trafficking and imposing penalties on not surrendering a firearms purchaser identification card or firearm after a court order.

Bail reform laws would include restricting the release of an individual on bail if the charge is an aggravated firearms offense and increasing bail requirements for aggravated firearms crimes.

Christie also formed a working group whose aim is to propose ways to reduce violence, foster safer neighborhoods, and destigmatize mental illness.

The video game thing will annoy Hollywood, which should help him in Louisiana. He should be able to dance around signing the new Barrett .50 BMG ban easier than reducing magazine limits. (Since Sweeney also has the .50 BMG ban, this may be a bone thrown to the ultra-libs in the Assembly.) Could be worse.

(Sorry, if you are lucky enough to own a half-dozen Barretts.)

So lets see who is gonna pay for all this crap. I sure as hell ain't. I got my FID for life or until a criminal. Not paying another dime.

So lets see multiple background checks to purchase a weapon, But since only Law abiding citizens do background checks, Does nothing but penalize legal owners.

Banning weapons that have never been used in a crime. That's sure to cut down on violence. What a f'ing idiot.
