Advice on concealing glock17

Recommended Posts

Almost any pistol can be concealed.....   with the right holster and garments....

I carried my Full Size M&P 9mm without trouble.....

Look at some quality holster companies:

Guess your all leo`s with the ccw`s so my question is my son just graduated the the sommerset class 48:13 and was thinking of the HK XD Compact.

Your thoughts on concealment?

Negative.  Non-resident CCWs while in free states.

Which hk are you considering verses the xd compact?

I am looking at my first gun. The glock17 sits the best in my hand. .what hustler are you using to conceal your glock17? Am I being realist thinking that I can conceal a glock17 OWB and IWB? I am 5'11 and 230.

It really depends on the season and what clothes you are wearing. If I was wearing a coat I could conceal a Glock 17 with an OWB holster. During the summer I wear cargo shorts and a golf shirt. For that I have an IWB (inside waist band) Crossbreed Supertuck for my Springfield XD Subcompact, though I'm planning on switching to my Glock 19 due to design flaws in the XD (The function of your striker is dependent on a weak roll pin)

Your ability to conceal is going to depend a lot on the length of the grip (overall height) and the thickness of the frame and grip. The barrel length is pretty much irrelevant, as it will be in your pants. The grip is the highest point of your pistol that will stick out. This is mostly noticeable only when bending at the waist. I haven't tried since packing on some weight, so I'll check it out when I get a chance. I'm currently slightly lighter than you and the same height.

If you're looking for IWB, I say +1 on the Galco Kingtuk.  It's very comfortable and conceals well.  I don't have a G17, but I use that holster for my G19.  I'm a very skinny dude, so I have a tough time concealing anything, but the Kingtuk does a great job and is extremely comfortable after a short break in period.  I'm sure you'd have similar results with the Crossbreed SuperTuck Deluxe.  They're basically the same holster and both very popular.

I think a full size glock is a little much to carry conceal... could it be done? sure... you could carry an uzi concealed.. its just not practical...

I used to carry my 23 all the time, but recently switched to 27 for my every day carry gun... the 27 is small enough that it doesn't become annoying no matter what I am doing... I own a 22 now as well which is the full size glock..

I carry my 27 in this and you can not tell I am carrying a gun.. (baby glock)

whenever I carry my full size glock it is on my belt not concealed..

You can conceal it by getting a g 26! Or even a 19.

that be the truth!! G17 is a Full Size Combat/ Duty gun. Yes you can carry it CCW but you need to do what everyone said get a good holster and belt. But with a gun that big you have to think hard about the clothing you have on whenever its CCW time. Also, you can take suggestions all day long on holster type's and were to carry. At the end few weeks carrying and spending 200.00 on box full of holsters you will find what works for you. If you have a CCW permit and can carry you should buy your G17 for Range/ Home protection and look into another gun for CCW. Just my opinion.

Good luck!
