svt3183 14 Posted December 30, 2015 Ruger has been hitting homeruns, so hopefully this thing is awesome too. I read the trigger is really sweet and it will be affordable like all Ruger products. It's supposedly going to be widely available in stores next week. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/12/foghorn/rumor-leaked-pictures-of-rugers-forthcoming-american-pistol/
voyager9 3,437 Posted December 30, 2015 I'm curious how this compares with the VP9. Certainly it appears the price will be much less (~450 vs 650). Side by side
maintenanceguy 510 Posted December 30, 2015 I own several Ruger guns and I like Rugers. I see one problem with this gun. The mag release is right where thumb is going to rest. I see they added a bump behind the mag release to keep my thumb away but I'm not sure it's going to work. I have the same problem with my LCP. The LCP is much smaller, so the problem might not be as bad but I have dropped the mag several times when firing the LCP.
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted December 30, 2015 Knowing Ruger - the trigger will be pretty bad. It's also 17+1 in 9mm so that's a problem in NJ... Pass...
InFamous 311 Posted December 30, 2015 UGH I've been following this story all day and figured it was Ruger's answer to the VP9. I'll wait and see what the price point is, but I like the look of the VP9 better.
svt3183 14 Posted December 30, 2015 A dealer who got one early said the trigger is awesome and comparable to PPQ/VP9. Obviously that will need to be corroborated, but sounds promising. Knowing Ruger - the trigger will be pretty bad. It's also 17+1 in 9mm so that's a problem in NJ... Pass...
svt3183 14 Posted December 30, 2015 I don't get the VP9 craze, I think the PPQ has better feel, better trigger, and was out two years sooner I'm curious how this compares with the VP9. Certainly it appears the price will be much less (~450 vs 650). Side by side
Vlad G 345 Posted December 30, 2015 I'm actually fairly sure Ruger couldn't care less about VP9 and PPQ but chasing Glock and M&P. In fact that thing looks a LOT like an M&P to my eyes, trigger safety aside. More importantly they read the recent Army, FBI, etc pistol requirements and know what's coming so they are building guns to that spec. On the other hand, they are Ruger so I'll wait for the recall before I even look at one.

mustang69 505 Posted December 30, 2015 Offered in 9mm and .45 acp with a msrp of $579, will probably retail around $500. Looks interesting...
302w 83 Posted December 30, 2015 I don't see what it offers in an already crowded market. I'm sure it's as good as any M&P, Glock, or xD which are already substantially equal.

Looks like they may be competing for the new military pistol which has some pretty interesting requirements which disqualifies a lot of current guns. T Bill 649 Posted December 30, 2015 From another forum The internal fire control module comes out and the serial number is on the rear portion. This means it's a modular design like the Sig P250 and Sig P320. In the future if Ruger offers a compact or subcompact version you might be able to just buy a conversion kit that has the shorter grip and shorter barrel and slide. diamondd817 828 Posted December 30, 2015 I totally forgot about that beretta - is it out? Not yet. Knowing the speed that Beretta operates at, it will be at least another year before its available.

RobertJames 14 Posted January 17, 2016 10 or 17 round mags. A NJ Sophie's choice. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was told at LGS that the 10 round magazines would not feed reliably and were all returned to Ruger. I handled the .45, and it felt quite comfortable. I think I want an M&P .45 though.
