Being safe in NYC

Recommended Posts

I actually saw this posted in the Port of Authority terminal and Grand Central.  I'm expecting a few pithy comments on how you folks feel about this view of protecting yourself.  I'm dumbfounded that someone believes this is true or helpful. Make sure your cellphone is loaded in case you run into trouble.

All things considered, I would rather be equipped like Officer Elkin.

As would many who are familiar with such a kit.

But considering mass transit conditions (full train cars and buses are extremely common), I would not be comfortable about the chance of a ND.

Hell, the amount of people walking in a common sidewalk in Manhattan with that on makes me feel odd.

I'm there every weekday but hadn't noticed that sign.

And a News Flash for Jason.......  He's not safe.

I haven't seen PA police carrying M4's recently.  Like... in more than a year.  In fact, the NG units there only carry sidearms now.  No more long guns at the PA in more than a year that I've seen.

Not sure I follow you.  But if you mean having that on a sling in a sardine packed subway car... sure... that's probably not ideal.  I'd prefer that the nearest person to me not be pressing against me and the M4.

You are already safe. The entire state is covered by the Safe Act.

You didn't see the squad or two of National Guard in there?

Also, do as I do, but I'm sure you can do more:

I commute almost daily, at the very least I carry body armor and a high output metal pocket flashlight. Pepper spray is also legal to carry.

I have read more than once that spray is only legal there if purchased there. People may want to check the laws, I never have.

that ad is disgusting. just part of the conditioning process whereby only those in "authority" may have guns. common folk should just feel perfectly safe anyway. fkn bullshit. i'd give serious consideration to add some comments to that ad if i saw it

Actually....the Ad doesn't say Jason is safe. But it does imply that he's essentially an expendable resource meant to serve the State as an obedient subject ...and do nothing that will actually protect himself.

That's pretty much what that ad is about.
