Help me decide what to use my last permit on...

I've narrowed it down to two choices. I'm trying to decide between a Sig P229 and a Springfield 1911 lightweight operator. I know, I know...apples and oranges. But that's where I'm at right now.

 

Opinions and reasonings, if you please...

Agree with the above post, a 1911 is a great experience. However, I am a true sig fan and find it difficult to ever recommend anything compared to it. You standard 229 in 9mm or the stainless elite in 40 are awesome choices. I wn an m11-a1 which is my favorite gun iv ever shot. It's basically a 229

I've owned 1911's in the past, but don't currently own one. Never owned a Sig.

 

The only 45 I own at this time is an Xdm. Everything else I have right now is chambered in 9mm.

I love my 229

But every stable should have a 1911

I have fired the 229. A plain Jane model withe SRT parts added. Which is the route I would go. If I hadn't recently fired one for the first time I wouldn't be having this dilemma.

Meh, I don't do shiny guns. All they're good for is making you a more visible target.

The reason why I like the stainless 229 in 40 is because it's much heavier than the regular 229 nitron and therefore helps a little with the snappiness of the 40 cal round.

 

Plus with the 229 not being as long as say the 226, it's weight is more well balanced throughout the gun.

 

If going for 9mm I would just do the regular 229, but that's me.

I have the Sig P229 Stainless Elite in .40. I love that pistol!

Kind of heavy for CC though.

I agree, if I was interested in 40 stainless would be a better choice. However the snappiness of the round is why I dislike it. IMO, the push of 45 makes it easier to keep on Target.

Personally not a fan of the 220, just does not feel right in my hand. I'd take the 227 over it anyway

Personally I like the Sig 229. The Legion looks sweet. But either one is awesome.

Well, I found an NOS Sig P229 Extreme for $790 shipped, so that's the route I went.

 

A new 1911 will be my first purchase on the next round of permits, whenever that may be.

I'm not in a high enough tax bracket to be a Sig guy, lol. But I have no doubt I'll wish I could be one after too long.

One becomes a Sig guy quickly.  My first three pistols were Sigs - then #5 was also a Sig.  And I still want some combination of a P220, P225, P228/M11, P239, and P320 in the future.

 

Sig does make 1911s too
