jm1827 284 Posted June 12, 2017 Heading to PR for a few days with the family, staying outside of Old San Juan. Anyone been there before? Any suggestions on things to do, places to see, places to eat? Or places not to go to?
HBecwithFn7 296 Posted June 12, 2017 I was in Puerto Rico last year, but on the southern end of it (Ponce), near the Caribbean Sea. Much more laid back than San Juan. There was a casino in my hotel, but I'm not a gambling kinda guy.

mikeyjones 88 Posted June 12, 2017 Old San Juan is nice, beaches are ok. Definitely better islands in the Caribbean for vacation, but also far worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Handyman 5,682 Posted June 12, 2017 If you rent a car, get the damage waiver. Everyone drives like Mad Max and the roads look like they they were carpet bombed.
Njsarge 11 Posted June 12, 2017 I have been to different parts of PR and had a great time anytime we went. Near San Juan just take the same precautions as any large city. Check out yelp or trip advisor for some good local eats. There are a lot of local shops in the area if you are waking around. Too bad you aren't there longer there are some other great places to check out but would require some driving. Thanks, that is what I have heard! Still up in the air about getting a car, everyone we talk too says use Uber, but I know there are some places they can't go and the taxi drivers give them a hard time. Barms 98 Posted June 12, 2017 Picayo is best restaurant meal had in my entire life. I ate there two nights in a row. El San Juan hotel for nightlife vibe.
TR20 47 Posted June 13, 2017 Second the recommendation on the Old San Juan hotel. GREAT rooms, very good crowd in the evening at the bar. They even have a cigar roller on hand to whip up a custom stogie. If you wish to stay closer to the old city, go to the Marriott Stellaris Resort and Casino. Its in Condado and is a great place, right on the beach with plenty of gaming action at night.
