2 pointsI know you didn't ask me, but I have info, so I'll share. A while back when one of the steel matches at OB was debating allowing PCC to shoot static steel, we were concerned about their impact on the plates and how much damage they would do shorten the lifespan, etc. We were already losing more equipment than we would like due to major PF .38 super and .40, and figured that we would lose money letting PCC play. So we asked everyone who had one to bring them down to the next match to crono with their usual pistol loads. We had a sampling of 9mm, .38 super/supercomp, .40, and .45. Surprise of surprises, most of the 16" barreled carbines produced the same muzzle velocity as a 5" barreled pistol. Some were a little slower, some were a little faster. IIRC you could pick up about 50 fps. .40 picked up the most FPS. Looking at what people were shooting the answer was that you needed both a slow burning powder AND case capacity. The only cheaper plinking ammo that does that is .40. The guys shooting their .38 super/supercomp ammo were using powders slow enough to provide lots of jetting gas to drive the comp, but I guess not slow enough or big enough case capacity. They pretty uniformly were producing the same velocities at 16" as at 4-5" + comp. A few years after that ballistics by the inch did pistol calibers, and their results weren't far off. I do wish they had used some cheap plinking ammo too rather than just pricey SD ammo that tends to be at max pressure and thus using slower powders. http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/9luger.html If you are using a fast burning low charge weight powder like tite group, don't expect to pick up much, if any muzzle velocity form a carbine. You are burning up the powder before you reach the end, and then adding friction. If you are pushing the envelope and using a slower powder to do it, you might get a 100-200 fps gain. Just don't expect it with white box type loads, nor with popular powders that feel soft becausee they produce higher velocities with low volume fast burning powders like titegroup.

2 pointsA guy was driving down the interstate, he looks in his rear-view mirror and sees that he is getting pulled over. The trooper walks over to the window, the gentleman politely asks the trooper "officer why are you pulling me over? I was going the speed limit, I haven't been drinking..." before he finished his sentence the trooper tells him "sir, your wife fell out the car about 2 miles back", the guy replies "OH THANK GOD! I thought I was losing my hearing."

2 pointsWhat do you need a light for, you only shoot in the daytime on a one way range. You don't need a light!

2 pointsRight now I drive a 2012 VW Touareg TDI. It's been the best vehicle I've ever owned. Very reliable and plays right to my frugal side. 10K between oil changes. Gets about 30 miles to the gallon (26+ gallon tank) on the highway and 24 with mixed driving and I do a lot of long range driving for work. Only problem was the fuel pump going at 45K and that was paid for by my extended warranty which also made the extended warranty worth it. Now I have to choose between VW buying it back for 41,000 - way above what it's worth or having them "possibly" fix the emissions system for free and 10,000. cash. If I opt to keep it though, how do I sell it later if I even can sell it. I doubt it will have any trade in value too. Of all the other vehicles I've owned my favorite was a 1976 CJ7 - damm I had fun with that. Got into a bit of trouble with it too driving where I shouldn't have been. Also loved my 1967 Plymouth Fury. It could take 6 people camping with all their gear and a couple of canoes and still and room for more.

2 pointsUnless you want to take a low light class just because 'Merica! Or you want to hunt Hog or Coyote at night somewhere that activity is legal. Or you are prior service military and you want to keep your skills up. Or you have a hundred other legitimate uses for wanting and acquiring NODS and a DBAL.

2 pointsIf you don't have NODs you don't need anything with an IR laser or IR illuminator. That would be a silly waste of money. But, if you have NODs, a mission that requires them, and are expecting to use them to their fullest potential, you need IR capabilities. The point is - just because Ray Ray thinks anything other than what he wants is useless, doesn't make it true.

1 pointGunbroker fraud turd alert. Here is the rifle eric120 bought http://www.gunbroker.com/item/633644556 and here is the rifle he is selling with added Nazi stamps, altered serial number, and Radom Receiver stamp. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/651821970 Isn't altering a serial number a felony? 1 pointThis is one sweet rifle. As a lefty - debating whether or not to switch over to a left-eject bolt and add a new trigger pack.

1 point@dajonga, that is a cruiser! In 2001 when I got out of the CG floated cross-country (Seattle to LA to LV to NJ) in a 78 Chrysler New Yorker Broham. That is a trip I will never forget.

1 pointwhen I go to the range.. I RUN and shoot.. I do this with full chest rig.. FULL of ammo.. and occasionally even body armor.. you know.. just for fun.. and I am not exactly lazy.. just recently I did a 5k night time trail run.. 3 mile run through the woods.. streams.. up and down inclines... so lugging around a carbine is not exactly difficult.. we are talking about carbines here.. carbines that are intentionally (in my case at least) built pretty lightweight from the start.. so a dbal is not going to be the breaking point.. when I talk about NV or dbal.. I am not kidding.. even a little.. I find it ironic.. sometimes people look at my guns.. and see $600 optics.. $300 flashlights.. and they think excessive.. I ask you to consider this.. think about the people on this forum that collect guns.. like own a lot of them... thousands of dollars in guns.. some just sitting in the safe.. I on the other hand have 7 guns total.. thats it.. now I have a lot of money in each of them.. my goal is not to have a large quantity of guns.. my goal is to have a series of extremely specialized guns.. to the point that if I need a part and it doesn't exist I will make it.. I want those guns to work exactly how I want them to work.. to be capable of doing as much as possible.. so yes.. if I could afford NV.. I would absolutely have IR..

1 pointCurrent: 2000 Audi A4 - yes, she's got some years on her, but oh my, she's still a peach! Less than 140k miles and I have a great mechanic - so I intend to run her up to at least 200k. I love her so much I even named her: Princess Cruella Cream Puff. Favorite: the current car... in a tie with my first car - a hideous green VW Bug (a.k.a. The Green Hornet)with missing running boards and rotted holes in the floorboard. Literally, if I hit a puddle, my feet would get splashed - a very unique driving experience, for sure. But, oh, how I loved that car! I learned to drive stick on it, how to force it to start when it was being difficult, and therefore learned to think strategically by parking it on a hill whenever possible facing downhill... ah, good times! I actually cried when I sold it. You know what they say... a girl's "first" always has a special place in her heart, LOL. Worst: Every tin can in-between - Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Suzuki, etc. Hmmm... I just realized, I guess I'm just a fan of German engineering! Like the A4, even the ancient Bug had that nice solid "thunk" when you closed the door. I do so hate a "tinny" car.

1 pointRunning up the hill is only half the equation. After you run up that hill, attempt to accomplish a specific task, and then see what you can live without. Run up the hill in the dark then correctly engage a series of shoot/no shoot targets without giving away your position prior to shooting. See if that 8oz is worth it. Run up that hill then engage a series of targets from 100 to 1000 yards on an unknown distance range and see what you can hit with one shot per target. See if you want to ditch that range finder and bipod.

1 pointYeah I noticed that one at the beginning. He used one in the first movie outside the church.

1 pointOn weekends it's packed. You'll find out soon enough that when your lil one wants something, and has earned it, you will do what is necessary. Even if that means spending 4 hours in NYC traffic, spending 60 bucks in parking, 30 bucks in tolls and a duece and a half for Chinese made products. Parenthood

1 pointThanks guys, I was supposed to see @tj462nj today but I just got home from NYC. I share a birthday with my daughter and we went to her favorite spot:
