NJGF Arms Race 2012

Recommended Posts

Now, you can stimulate the local economy and protecting your neighborhood.

At the end of the year, will have a few winners, for most C&R added, most total added, most interesting firearm, etc. Your reward? Brownie points and bragging rights!

Hopefully this will encourage new members to post, ask questions, get more involved. Secondly, this can also serve going forward as a master pics thread. =)

Rules for the 2012 Arms Race.

#1 You can only list guns that have come into your possession as of 01/01/2012. That will give everyone an even start. Sorry seasoned NJGF'ers, you don't get a head start.

#2 Any firearm will count (even barreled actions) but, if you list your airsoft guns and water pistols we will laugh at you. Pellet & BB guns will count but post at your own risk of being picked on. Military flare guns will count also.

#3 The more you get the better but, Cool Factor can go a long ways.

Brownie points for: Bayonets, Scopes, a new stock, gun safes or cabinets

You may even get Brownie points for posting pic's.

Bonus question: In your first post, predict the total number of new firearms you will add to your arsenal, net of sales by year end 2012.

Btw, if your gun purchases sank in a boating accident.... dont feel you have to post, although if you want to tease people as to what sank, go right ahead.

I'm off to a bang-up start. Just picked up a pistol and rifle this morning from my FFL and inspected what he's got in the safe for more while he signed off on my exemption paperwork. I'll be taking home the 13 in the safe later this month. Chasing two more out of the hands of other collectors' right now...

Well, prolly won't be winning an arms race anytime soon...

I do have plans for a Benelli Supernova/Remington 870/Mossberg 590 (still unsure of which one(s) yet), a FN Five-seveN, Sig P229 .40S&W, maybe a Glock 17 or 19, or Beretta 92F, and possibly an inexpensive bolt action, possibly in .22-250.

I already purchased a Savage 10FCP-K .223 bolt action this year.

I will post pics when I get it. It came out of nowhere but I could not pass up the deal. It's getting harder to keep all this from the wife

It's okay, she already knows! jk

Let's see ... Big Hayden's bitone XD45 Tactical is already in my safe.

#2 for the year (an XD45 compact from an OH arfcommer) is already in PK90's safe awaiting the OGAM 30 day tickdown.

A friend with a recently-deceased formerly gun-owning ex may be holding #3 (but that still remains to be seen.)

And as Joni Mitchell said in Cactus Tree "and you know there may be more" :music:

Well here are my two new purchases. I got a call about a permit that was about to expire that I forgot about. Dealer was holding it for something I was looking for in case they found it instead. It was about to expire so I wanted to use it. I have a scorpion on hold for my new permits but she asked if she could sell it and I could wait for a new one. She made me some deals on other stuff so i agreed. Here is what I got.

First is a new Springfield Armory XDM 3.8 compact .45. Here was my deal on this one. It was received during the gear up and they called springfield and asked since it was produced during that time if they would give me the gear up on it. They agreed if I bought that day. So I did.

Next she had a RRA ar-15 that someone ordered when they had their sale back in november. It is a LAR 15 operator 2 .223/.5.56. Came with flip up front and rear sights, quick detach flat top, 4 way picatinny free floating handguard, swivels, and chrome bolt group. The guy decided he could get it so she gave it to me for that price. Over 600 off their regular price. Here it is.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
