Done with Dicks Sporting Goods

Recommended Posts

Today is the first day of a ammunition sale at Dicks. Not much on sale, just a few items. I got to the Brick store and they tell me they have no Remington Gun club, no 9mm, but do have Federal Target Load. How do you have a sale and not even have the items in stock? I'm more than done buying there even if it means driving out of state to purchase.

I dont blame dicks really they do order alot of ammo but alot of people buy their ammo sale or not. I have gone there say on a Saturday they are fully stocked by late monday cause of that sunday circular they have almost nothing left that went on sale.

I was getting from dicks also and ran into the same problem. I now order in bulk online and find even with shipping it cost less and I always have a stock pile at home. There is not many places to buy ammo in the brick/tomsriver area at a good price ant would like to support the locals but there prices are crazy. Bob kislin's here in tome river wants 18 bucks a box of 50 9mm.

I quests my ranting is just order on line till the shops around(who know there are not many places to get ammo) can compete with online pricing.

Typically I had been going to the Stafford Dicks, but had to go to Toms River today and thought the Brick store would probably have more selection since they have a bigger market. The bottom gun rack was full, and the top rack had on a few guns in it. I probably would have been better off making a trip to Stafford. I had $40 worth of coupons and gift certificate so I still didn't do to bad. I bought a case of 12 ga. and a case of .223 .

For the sales where the ammo prices are unbelievable, it is usually because they are priced as a loss leader. When they do that, they send a specific quantity of inventory to a given store and when it is gone, it is gone. This isn't some evil plot.

Dicks ahs sponsored shooting matches in NJ, and is a pretty convenient place to get shotgun ammo at decent prices. For those alone, I'll keep on buying what I buy from them.

I constantly have issues in the brick store, I called ahead one time to make sure they had the I wanted in stock, and asked them to put 2 cases of ammo to the side for me, almost 2k worth of product I would have bought. The guy confirms I drive out there, and they had no one to sell me the items. I went straight to the freehold store, got both cases of ammo, but no gun and the manager took 20 off each case ontpp of the sale price. That was the second time it happened to me in that store. Call there corporate number, they will help you out. And then goto the freehold store. Only time I goto the brick store is in a pinch for ammo on my way to the range

I had a conversation with a young man behind the gun counter at their East Brunswick branch that explained that they have a standard stocking level on Ammo and encouraged to order up in anticipation of a sale. Recently no matter how much they order above their stocking level, they only receive a fraction of that order and he so much as confirmed that ammo sales have increased to the point that the warehouse have not been able to fill whole orders.

No. Henry was not there at the time, some enthusiastic young man who apologized to several of us who came shopping for 9mm. I did pick up a box of Ultramax for $42.00 but that was the only 9mm available.

Yes, most of their ammo sales are not loss leader sales, just very little margin. I believe they have issues getting inventory right now, especially as being a large chain, they aren't likely to turn to alternate vendors short term. Inventory not keeping up with demand isn't a really good reason to refuse to do business with a company unless you just like to run around filled with self-rightous indignation for the kicks.

*shrug*

I just got back from Dicks in East Brunswick. I bought 4 boxes of Remington 9mm for $12.98 a box. He said it was on sale from $14.99, but it goes on sale all the time, sometimes for $11.98. I didn't ask how much they had, but chatted a bit with the guy behind the counter and he seemed cool. I've seen a lot of people complain about the .22 Remington ammo - is the 9mm stuff any good

Thanks, i was hoping to hear that. The guy at the counter said to check the online fliers on Sunday mornings for the sales & I intend to because I haven't really been able to find anything better price-wise, online or locally.

Henry, Kenny, and the older guy in the Gun/Hunting section at the East Brunswick location are all good guys to deal with. Henry and Kenny and members at Old Bridge also.

I kinda dislike most .22 ammo, dirty stuff, really doesn't matter what brand, sometimes doesn't fire, can see it got hit, nothing happened. One in 1000 seem to be squibs. That really bites when you are indoors with other people shooting and the .22 is so darn quiet compared to "normal" ammo. Really have to pay attention to the sound and feel of the gun or watch-out! Outdoors it isn't as much an issue since you are normally shooting by yourself (or at least only one person shooting at a time) and you can hear what is happening.

I'm done with dicks for the sheer reason that they make up bs laws and that every firearms counter guy at every dicks i've ever been to but one has been a raging douchebag

im starting to wonder if that is just NJ.. my fiance works at one here in PA and she said that someone just brought ammo to the counter the other day... no crazy procedure.. no body guard escort.. they just brought it to the counter.. paid and left.. lol imagine that..

I used to buy ammo at Dicks in Woodbridge and I know you had to do the "walk of shame" because the ammo was on the second floor. Whenever I bought at Brick, Manahawkin or Freehold they just put it in the plastic box and handed it to me. Shotgun Ammo by the case I just carried the case to the checkout. I do agree that they do not ever have a great quantities of the popular calibers in stock.

There isn't much ammo in PA if that's where you were headed. Call ahead. Ammo inventories and prices are fluctuating nationwide.

I've bought ammo from Dicks in a few different states and they never carried my ammo to the counter. If they tried I would have told them to F-off and shoot it themselves.
