jrfly3006 42 Posted January 18, 2013 TRENTON — A New Jersey assemblywoman has introduced a bill that would add an extra 5 percent sales tax on guns and ammunition. The money would be fund safety improvements to public buildings. “Since the incident in Newtown, you start to listen to people. I’m listening to students, I’m listening to educators, I’m listening to everybody,” said Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-Bergen). “I think the first thing has to be to take caereof our infrastructure. then comes up the second question, well how are we going to pay for this?” Under the bill (A3727), gun purchasers would pay the extra sales tax on top of the current 7 percent sales tax. The money would go into a “Safety Tax Fund” that would pay for things like security cameras, electronic emergency notification systems, devices controlling entrances, panic buttons and doors that can only be locked from inside. Even though the bill defines a public building as anything from a school to a movie theater, Wagner said she plans to amend the bill so that it only applies to publicly-owned buildings. Wayne Viden, co-owner of Bob’s Little Sports Shop in Glassboro, said gun buyers already have to pay a $15 fee plus sales tax for a background check. In addition, there are fees for firearms purchaser ID cards and a handgun purchase permit. “I think they just want to charge more money for guns to try to discourage people from buying them,” Viden said. “There are so many useless taxes they have that they don’t use the money correctly for, what guarantee is there they’re going to use this correctly?” MORE POLITICS • Christie announces task force to reduce violence in N.J.; calls NRA commercial 'reprehensible' • Pres. Obama unveils $500M gun violence package • Complete coverage of the Connecticut school shooting “I look at this just as a tax on alcohol or as a tax on cigarettes,” said Wagner. “I you want to use ammunition or purchase a gun I don’t think a 5 percent sales tax is much to ask for to provide for infrastructure improvement.” Wagner’s bill is about one of two dozen New Jersey Democrats have introduced in the aftermath of last month’s Newtown, Conn., elementary school tragedy. Gov. Chris Chrisite, a Republican, in July said New Jersey’s gun laws are sufficient. Thursday, Christie said he will create a task force to address violence in New Jersey. So if they cant ban anything they'll just tax it in the name of safety. These people have no shame. So now add say to the average $900 Stag AR .. $15.00 NICS, 12% tax , maybe $40 for transfer youre up to $1100...

MarkWVU02 47 Posted January 18, 2013 We should just tax these politicians every time they try to pass a bill. $10,000 for new proposed legislation $25,000 if it goes against our constitution.

T Bill 649 Posted January 18, 2013 Try 27% on new complete guns and ammo. 15% Federal. 7% State 5% Infrastructure Tax. Keep taxing the little guy. What the hell are you Democarts going to do when the little guy has no money left. Pretty soon we will be like Massachuetts. Gun ownership down from 1.5 Million to around 250-300 thousand. And crime hasn't changed at all when compared to surrounding states.

Guest Posted January 18, 2013 a tax like that is obviously aimed at preventing poor people from owning firearms and that is discrimination, think about it...
Wavecaster 22 Posted January 18, 2013 “Since the incident in Newtown, you start to listen to people. I’m listening to students, I’m listening to educators, I’m listening to everybody,” said Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-Bergen). Concetta "Connie" Wagner (born July 7, 1948) is an American Democratic Party politician, who has served in the New Jersey General Assembly since January 8, 2008, Only took her 5 years to start listening to the people she supposedly represents? That would be above average if she were actually listening to everybody and not just the few people who support her agenda. This country really needs to get a fresh start with politicians. Who would pay the tax if they compromised and allowed CCW ? Hmmmmmmm There is no such thing as compromising anymore in modern politics. Everyone officially has their heads so far up their ass they can no longer hear reason.
TK421 2 Posted January 18, 2013 I read this before, then saw this thread and thought it might be the answer. OK so how about charging those that vote for these ass clowns more money to offset the cost increases to those that actually get it. OK may I see toy voter registration card? No card, full price. Democrat, Socialist, Green Party, etc. 10% more. Republican, Libertarian, Constitution Party, 5% discount. NRA, SAF, GOA, NJ2AS Member card 10% discount. That would rial them up. Petes 0 Posted January 18, 2013 How bout we say no to taxing more on anything gun/ammo related. How bout we tell them to go f themselves and push for more rights like CCW and get some reps that agree in office. Enough of this BS already.

Teky0101 6 Posted January 19, 2013 Its already bad enough that we have to spend nearly $75 on a firearms card, $20 on pistol permits and another $20 on a background check when will the madness end! Someone buying their first handgun nearly cost an additional $115 and that's not even including the gun or sales tax!
