If somebody brings a metal ammo can of any size I'll give you my brass from the match (38 special) plus some 357 brass that I have here. In total, 250 rounds.

Ray does that mean you would like to trade the can for the brass. or is this just to put the brass in

As an ex OBRPC Steel shooter now living in Florida I just want to let people know how lucky they are to have such a good club that sponsors all these great events and attracts some top talent at times. When I moved to Florida I thought that I would be swamped with so many competitions that I would have to pick and choose. After all this is the Gunshine State. However I learned that there is a big difference in liking guns and doing anything with them other than carry or use them for home defense.

First off, the gun clubs/ranges in reasonable travel distance do not have rifle or shotgun ranges. Attempts to open up a new indoor and outdoor shooting range were voted down. Seems that the citizens of Florida are in favor of guns, just not the shooting them in their neighborhoods. Most of the local competitions are IDPA due to the number of people who carry guns, untrained I may add. Most of the competitions around here were done at local farms who were trying to earn some extra money by lending their unused fields to various goups of shooters. I shot in the senior division and took first place. However, I was the only senior shooting. :)

At OBRPC I shot with David Olhasso and JJ Racuza and it made me a better shooter. David especially took time to show me what I was doing wrong and I improved due to his advice. It is pretty loose in the competitions here. For steel, no special equipment is needed other than somethng to hold two mags and a holster that covers the trigger guard. They are not part of any national organzations so they make up their own rules and they make it so that no one has to buy any special gear to compete which is good and bad. Good in that it is not expensive but bad in that it does not attract the serious shooters. At the few sanctioned IDPA matches you mush have sanctioned equipment though.

I should mention that I do not live near any of the major Florida cities and things are probably different there but then again, Old Bridge is not a major city either and look what they offer. I really miss OBRPC, although I had quit it a few years before I moved for several reasons including medical and work issues. I can join a club an hour away that only offers an outdoor pistol range. Not fun in the Florida sun. I miss shooting the wide variety of competitions that OBRPC offered. I miss the shotgun matches and all the various and inventive steel competitions. I miss watching national champions shooting. I miss talking about guns with others who are into them. I am constantly running into gun owners who do not shoot or even know too much about the guns they own. If only OBRPC would open up near me. That would be heaven. :)

If I ever move I fear that I'll feel the same way as you do. Sometimes you don't know how good you have it until it's GONE. And to think that some folks here are still "in the dark" and posting threads (to this day) about Shore Shot vs. Brick Armory, and how bad they BOTH suck, lol!

I've probably shot with you or alongside of you. May you continue in good health for the rest of your retirement and enjoy our great sport in what ever venue you can find.

NO MISSES, JUST CLANGS!

Dave

I think I may come out of hibernation for this. I've never done anything like it so if you would be so kind:

How many mags would I need per firearm?

Can I use my 10/22 which is converted to .17HM2?

How far are the targets in general?

Where do I pickup my trophy?

Thanks in advance for your help, kindness, and understanding.

How many mags would I need per firearm? 5

Can I use my 10/22 which is converted to .17HM2? I don't think so. I'm pretty sure rimfire division is .22lr only. http://www.worldclas...bid=105&mid=473

How far are the targets in general? Usually 7 - 25 yards

Where do I pickup my trophy? You will have to ask NickC or JonF about that

Thanks in advance for your help, kindness, and understanding.

like steve said, rimfire division is for .22, but you still might be able to compete in standard carbine division ( going up against 9mm/40/45 etc ) I'll need to see if they consider .17hm2 a " rifle " caliber, if so - it's prohibited for steel.

edit: looks like .17 is on the prohibited list on the indoor range, I'm going to go ahead and assume it's prohibited on outdoor steel as well.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
