3 pointsthere should be at the least consistency in the requirements. Actually the only requirement should be that you are legally allowed to own a firearm. the constitution does the rest. perhaps i was hasty in my response.I do believe that training is essential if you plan to carry
-
2 pointsCongrats. No offense but try to send in a better photo next time, put on decent shirt and smile. You look like an inmate. If you ever take down a mass shooter at a food court you want to look good on the news.

2 pointsUpdate I applied on 8-12. 1st reff got e-mail and filled out with in an hour. 2nd did not. Verifed the e-mail 9 ways to sunday. Called my locat PD on 8-25. Got the voice mail for the person who handles it. Left a nice message. Today 8-26-22 @ 830 my second reff said he got the e-mail, @ 840 got a call from my local PD to follow up as they resent the e-mail. In fact my 2nd ref got the e-mail 3 times. Quick nice chat. Love my local PD. FYI they are working on apx 60 CCW apps and trying to get them done as fast as possible. (Hanover Twp in morris county)

2 pointsSkipping the irrelevant parts... NJAC13:45-2.4 (b) Each applicant shall demonstrate a thorough familiarity with the safe handling and use of handguns by indicating in the space provided therefor on the application form, and on any sworn attachments thereto, any relevant information. Thorough familiarity with the safe handling and use of handguns shall be evidenced by... 2. Submission of an applicant's most recent handgun qualification scores utilizing the handgun(s) he or she intends to carry as evidenced by test firings administered by a certified firearms instructor of a police academy, a certified firearms instructor of the National Rifle Association, or any other recognized certified firearms instructor; I suspect denials based on not having a RPO instructor are just rumors. The law is pretty clear who can certify the qualification.
-
2 pointsNot really, only real question beyond name was if I understood that I can only carry what I qualified with and that if I wanted to add more handguns I would just need to submit the qualifications to him for an update.
-
2 pointsJust to come back to earthly reality for a moment, PA, NH, UT and FL all granted me license to carry firearms in their states. Except for PA it was also all done remotely. None of them had 'qualifications'. Any more than I need to 'qualify' to speak, write, worship, etc. I'm going to jump through all the same hoops as everyone else to try to get a NJ permit. Just because I can. So I fault no one for trying to get one. But personally, I view the conditions for NJ 'granting' us permits to carry as even more ridiculous, disorganized and illogical than when they just said "NO!".
-
2 pointsThe law requires nothing more than "safe handling of a firearm" . In fact, simple passing of a test in use of force laws is good enough. No need to "out" anyone, that's the control freaks talking. And those counties need to be sued.
-
2 pointsI used relatives for all three references (wife and 2 brother-in-laws); the Boro PD sergeant contacted all three and didn't seem to have any issues with them as references. I also list relatives as references for the pistol permits so I presume there should be no issue for PTC.

1 pointU.S. judge throws out Texas gun ban for young adults after Supreme Court ruling (yahoo.com) You can carry a firearm in the service of your country, so why not when you're a civillian?
-
1 pointLooks like they made an error, just got email saying they do not need it.
-
1 pointWe don't need guidance, the law says how it works in 2C:39-5(b), with a permit to carry your possession of a handgun in NJ is legal. It says permit to carry, but it really functions as a permit to possess a handgun legally in general. Caveat being if the judge says you can only carry handguns listed on permit, then only those would work this way. The whole reason we needed to use the transport restrictions and exempted places under 2C:39-6 to possess or transport a handgun in NJ was because we lacked a permit to carry so our possession was illegal under 2C:39-5(b) unless we could prove an exemption. Once you have a PTC issued (and that is valid for the handgun you are possessing if restricted by judge) no more exemptions or transport rules for that handgun. Same thing applies with FID in relation to rifles and shotguns, but we could actually obtain one of those prior to a few months ago.

1 pointMorris County; twenty-four days from submission on July 20th and approved/handed to me on August 12th; it was pretty simple and uneventful with nothing unexpected. I'm a bit detail oriented so I came with everything already sorted in separate folders for each application, three copies of everything, extra photos, put my name and SBI number on the back of the pics, etc. Came in with the original check list I found with everything marked, sat down with the chief and reviewed everything with him, double checking everything off the list so we were all good, and that was it.

1 point"... the woman told officers the dispute was over who was or wasn’t in line at the restaurant. She said she felt threatened by three women there and had seen a video that said if you feel threatened, to brandish your weapon." Oh, OK. She went to the Joe Biden Firearm Training Academy. She just forgot to fire the two blasts. And a shotgun was too big to conceal in her shorts.
-
1 pointThat is bizarre. Looking over the syllabus for the classroom training, I don't think it is humanly possible to speak slowly enough to hit the minimum 16 hours of required classroom time. Then there is two hours of range safety training, again requiring a glacially-slow pace to actually fill two hours. And at the end of that, the actual firing qualification is only 5 rounds. From the ready position. No holster. No strong hand/weak hand. No time limit, go as slowly as you want. From 12 feet. Hit a 25" x 11" piece of paper with 4 out of 5 shots, and you've passed. It kinda reads like the classroom and range safety sections were written by someone who didn't believe civilians should be granted carry permits, and the qualification section was written by someone who believed you shouldn't have to qualify at all, but had to write something down just the same.
-
1 pointWhile I wish people would do this kind of training on their own accord, their own choice, the amount of time and money one must invest into these requirements is unduly burdensome, and as mentioned earlier in this page, it inherently discriminates against low-income New Yorkers.
-
1 pointRest assured, there are plenty of people on here who will immediately negatively critique anyone or association promoting themselves if it's warranted and even when it's not. The BIG NJ associations are all pretty solid. ANJRPC CNJFO, NJ2AS. They are all nonprofits and MUST disclose publicly their 990's, and are published on the IRS website I beleive.

1 pointBring your shotgun anyway. I believe they have skeet and trap fields. If it's the same place I'm thinking of, it was where I went before each duck hunting season to sharpen my skillz.

1 pointThat's for RPO not for everyone else...a lot of us used those ranges in the beginning just to play it safe since they were the only places offering quals but since then we have realized that the RPO course is not needed
-
1 pointThat’s not true. The list on NJSP is only a small list for RPO. If people are getting denied for not being on that list lawyer up because that is complete BS.
-
1 pointThey are trying to swing the midterms. They are saying "See the gas is falling!" What they don't tell you is inflation is about 20%, Gas will be back up 12-1-22. Home purchase interest rates are climbing FAST! Home sales are falling FAST! and Home prices are falling FAST! The idiot dimocrap voter will still vote blue. They are already spending the 10K+ that bidumb says he will buy their vote with student loan kickback. Just another 1/2 Trillion to ad to the inflation!!

1 pointYou should go into comedy! In the past I've said the same thing when schools want to do random student drug testing... yeah, sure, if you also randomly test the staff, which would, of course, never fly.

1 pointClaw yes. My T1C holsters have a claw and it works well. My friend tried the wedge and said it was uncomfortable for no added benefit over the claw.

1 pointThat's the thing in my mind, the only approved places are for RPO so the only thing we had to go by initially was that and to play it safe a lot of early adopters went to the those approved places and did that course of fire. But from what I have seen since then is that the standard for us is not the same as RPO so until the state clarifies what the standards are there is going to be this grey area.
-
1 pointWhy should the be "outed" they have done nothing wrong. Any range that is offering qualifications is doing their best with the limited info that the state is putting out, the state is being ambiguous at best on what the "Qualification' is...by statute its showing safe handling of a firearm. So showing any anger or outrage at the ranges is misplaced. With that said I agree with you that as a CCW carrier you need to take it seriously and show responsibility and get training above and beyond what any qualifications the state requires.
-
1 pointI live in Ocean county and I received my permit. The Judge is very good in OC. I think I received it 29 days after superior court received it. Total process was 42 days.
-
1 pointJust wanted to update. I just had my appearance in front of Judge Silvanio(Gloucester) he approved and stated that I can only carry what I qualified with. He is forwarding the permit to my LPD so I should have it next week. Almost there.
-
1 pointYes, it is the 4 digit municipal code. I wouldn't photocopy anything regarding the application. With all the waiting involved with this burdensome process, I wouldnt give any excuse to reject and then have to start back at square one.

1 pointHell has frozen over...... and I just saw a pig fly..... I got the call..... I pick up my permit tomorrow Submitted end of June Morris County Rockaway Twp. Qualification done at RTSP in Randolph Never did I think this could be a possibility......
-
0 pointsIf true those "places" should be outed . There is a reason for qualification requirements. Carrying is no fkn joke, Its as serious as it gets and should be treated as such ,especially by the people/establishments who are giving the qualification course and clearly charging for the service
-
0 pointsRumor warning... I was talking to a retired police officer who is now working at a range in Gloucester county. He said Gloucester and Camden counties have begun collaborating on defining minimum standards for the qualification. He said there are some places running qualifications with as little as 20 rounds and without any distance shooting, and they want to stop that.
