Price of gas

Gee gas prices are dropping in an election year! Go figure. If that corpse gets re elected you can expect to see $5 a gallon and higher.

Someone was talking on Hannity’s radio show today, said that Biden quietly relaxed oil drilling in the U.S. so we have more oil plus the winter months is cheaper, But if Dems win again, they will cut it off again.

In Biden's quest to artificially lower gas prices for political favor, he has sold off and depleted the SPR to a dangerously low level.  The SPR is at a 400 million bbl deficit, less than half the SPR capacity.  The oil sold is being used to keep prices down, but here's the kicker, he is using the profits to fund pet socialist projects.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/01/25/energy-boom-renewables-fossil-fuels/

"The best-kept secret in American politics today: Almost every kind of energy is booming.

Oil, natural gas, renewables — production of nearly every major source of energy has recently touched all-time highs. In fact, production of each has roughly doubled since 2000.

While U.S. crude oil production plummeted early in the pandemic and took time to recover, field production has reached new highs in the past few months, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reports. In September and October (the most recent months for which data is available), U.S. oil producers were pumping 13.2 to 13.3 million barrels per day, exceeding the pre-pandemic peak of 13 million in late 2019 under Trump.

To put this in perspective, the United States is producing more oil than any other country in history."

* (me) Just to be clear, this isn't intended to make Biden look good.  Oil is a global commodity that he or Trump, or any President, have very little control over.

They have SOME control over it.  Which most definitely effects production and therefore pricing.

Biden's first day he immediately didn't renew leasing of federal lands to oil producers limiting the amount they could supply to meet demand.

Now there is increased demand but a more limited supply.  Hence higher prices at the pump.

Trump has already said that if he's elected he wants to "drill baby drill!" by opening those federal lands back up.  This will allow more supply which should eventually bring prices down.

Presidents definetly have influence over oil prices.  They aren't THE determining factor but they can definetly nudge things in one direction or the other.

Didn't NJ have one of the lowest gas taxes before Christie?

And don't try to escape by using an EV, that's slated for $250 / year tax too.

Maybe they should charge an annual gas tax on people who move out of state as well!

This clip is from an old USAToday article, but I figure the numbers are probably bigger now...  I remember hearing this while listening to Jim Gearhardt (Miss the guy).  It's obscene.

"The Reason Foundation says New Jersey spends just over $2 million per state-controlled mile on construction, maintenance and administration, triple the roughly $675,000 spent by the next-highest state, Massachusetts, and more than eight times the national average of $162,200."

The article is correct... the sheer contempt that these politicians hold towards anyone that even dares to question their bloated, corrupt processes is just remarkable. Honestly, it makes me sick. This is not how "representatives" are supposed to behave.

50th (dead last) when it comes to maintaining roads and the cost to maintaining those roads.  We are dealing with state unions, pay to play, cost of materials, and corruption in general.

Sussex County too. It's been hovering around $3 +/- .10 for the last month. Then late last week and weekend it's popped up .20 or so depending on which stations got new deliveries. Saw as high as $3.36.

They get by with a little help from their friends. Like five years of increase.

Here are the Republicans that voted to raise New Jersey's gas tax (nj1015.com)

What is the claimed purpose of the electronic vehicle fee and are golf cart included in that?

EVs weigh like 6000 pounds so they tear up roads like a truck but don’t pay gas tax which [in a non corrupt state] partially pays to fix roads. I’m guessing this is claimed to cover that loss

They're working on taxing EVs as well:

I honestly would have no problems paying even higher gas tax under the following conditions:

1.  All gas tax and MV fees are used only for roads, bridges, etc (repair, maintenance, new construction).

2. Eliminate all tolls (there would be savings by not having to pay for salaries and equipment maintenance for toll collection).  So you pay more gas tax (as a use tax) and no more tolls

3. Fix the astronomical per mile cost of NJ road construction and maintenance

Unfortunately our government is incapable of doing this

Before heading to the airport yesterday,  I filled up the rental car in San Jose, Ca….$5.20/gallon for regular, and $5.99/gallon for premium.

Wow.

I've been prepaying for gas on my recent rentals and running it on fumes when returning.

If I prepayed, it would have been nearly $7/gallon.

It’s a business trip so the company pays for it anyway.
