Hi,
I just joined the OBRPC as a probatioary member and am looking for other members to help me out with competitions and range time. Being new to the club, there are alot of rules and regulations before I can become a full, active member. If anyone on here frequents these events and goes to the range often, I would really like to meet to insure I am doing what I have to to become an active member in the future. I am semi-new to shooting and have never been in competitons before. This is what I love about OBRPC. They want you involved. I am also a member of Shore Shot in Lakewood, but like the club/community better. I only live 3 min fron the indoor range and can't wait to start shooting there.
I hope im posting this in the right place.
Thank you in advance !
Phil

As a reference, please see ... ... ...
... ... ... if you are unfamiliar with the VTAC barricade.
Most, if not all, of the classes I've attended (Telluric Group, Viking Tactics, Defoor and Redback One) use either the VTAC barricade or something quite similar in training drills. Once I've gotten my 2012 sea legs at Old Bridge, I'd like to use barricades during some practice sessions. Does anyone ever run these, or something similar there?
Not sure what club policy is, but is there a way to store these on-site? I'd be more than happy to provide the material and labor to get a few built ... And maybe stash them somewhere for all to enjoy and practice with. These really are a great training aid.
For those in the know, is this even possible?
Thanks,
Ronky

The 550 is not a true progressive as it does not auto index, right? I'm in the process of selling myself on a XL750. For a starter press, you can't go far wrong with a Lee Classic Turret. It is cheap, auto indexes, and swapping calibers is easy. NB. If you go for a manually indexed press and work multiple cartridges at once, be particularly careful to monitor the powder drop stage to avoid no powder or double charges. With an auto indexing press the risk is way lower.

The Dillon 550's are amazing machines. Plenty fast, and while there are faster machines in the Dillon lineup, the trade-off is that the faster ones take longer to change between calibers, and the caliber conversion kits are more expensive. You can use the 550 as a single stage press, one cartridge in the shell plate at a time, rotating between the stations after each handle pull. It's a good way to start out and gain experience. I've got a single stage press as well, used for larger rifle cartridges and the occasional oddball handgun cartridge that I don't shoot enough to justify the cost of a caliber conversion kit for the Dillon...but it sounds like those use cases aren't in your immediate future.

Why is the single stage an advantage exactly? Could I not build them on the progressive? -
My suggestion is to get a single stage too. This way it's easier to build loads as for progressives I run two lee pro 1000s ones set up for large pistol primers and one for small.

The forecast for Sunday the 5th looks bad, 70% chance of rain. I'm postponing two weeks, as the following weekend is a most sacred holiday, Mother's day. As of now, we are looking at 5-19-24 as the next shoot date.
