Pa. authorities: Standoff ongoing after off-duty NJ officer fires at cops

Recommended Posts

(CNN) -- An off-duty police officer opened fire Sunday at Pennsylvania authorities dispatched to address a "neighbor dispute," wounding one officer and pelting several police vehicles with bullets, authorities said.

Doylestown Township police received its call around 1:44 p.m. ET about an apparent quarrel in the community of about 17,500 people, which is located about 30 miles north of Philadelphia, Pennridge Regional Police Department Chief David Mettin told reporters.

About 15 minutes later, a man inside a residence began shooting at approaching authorities.

"One officer has been injured by shrap metal and two police vehicles have been shot," Mettin said late Sunday afternoon. "And an armored personnel vehicle also was struck."

Mettin did not give details on the condition of the wounded officer. But he did identify the alleged shooter as Richard Klementovich, a 42-year-old Clifton, New Jersey, police officer.

Sgt. Robert Bracken with the police department in Clifton, which is about 15 miles northwest of New York, confirmed one of its officers is involved in the incident. But he did not identify the department member by name.

He added that Clifton police are on the scene in Doylestown, about 75 miles to southwest, working with authorities there on the matter.

The man was barricaded inside the residence Sunday night, with law enforcement authorities from a host of agencies stationed nearby. Mettin said crime scene and negotiations specialists are among those on site, as are members of the local district attorney's office and county detectives. He urged local residents to stay inside their homes.

"This is an ongoing incident right now, it changes every few minutes," Mettin said.

Looks like he got his clock cleaned in the divorce...the question is if the ex got an RO for a legitimate reason or to screw him over and he snapped. there's an allegation of possible steroid use, so it could go either way...of course no matter what he's screwed, and rightly so..he swiss-cheesed a Bucks County PD car

I asked a cop I know over there what he had and this was his response

"ACR in .308. Had a few Ars as well and at least one scoped rifle...not sure what kind. 2000 rounds of ammo, night vision and a gas mask. Also pre barricaded the doors. Was a friggin nightmare."

What a jack arse. The article indicates that most likely he wasn't trying to kill the cops, just shooting near them to antagonize them into defending themselves so he could carry out his master plan... suicide by cop.

Looking at the above shot up cop car, seems he was blasting away at the empty passenger side of the patrol car. Doesn't make it right, but at least he didn't kill any. The idiot had some sense of sanity left I suppose.

Someone with an ACR in 308 is hard to believe.

Agreed. Bushmaster doesn't make it in .308 at this point, and there were only a handful of the magpul prototypes. It's not a stretch to imagine your buddy confused the acr and scar platform, or got the caliber wrong and the guy paid someone to turn his .233 acr into .300 blackout.

Sad story, but I kind of laughed to myself when I heard them making a big deal about him having 2000 rounds of ammo.

Well, this wasn't his home they raided, right?

He traveled from NJ to PA to barricade himself inside his wife's house and essentially commit "suicide by cop"

Why is it amusing that he brought 2000 rounds of ammunition with him to do this? I think it is a big deal. It shows pre-planning and the intention to engage in a prolonged firefight. It's not as if he is a poor soul gun collector who happens to own a bunch of rifles and bought bulk ammo to plink with.

He brought 2000 rounds off ammo across state lines with the intention to commit a felony.

big deal.
