I finally figured out that I, at the very least ,should be able to see the front sight if I expect to hit something. It is much more fun when the clays are hit.

I went to the 22 range afterwards and let about 10 kids shoot my assault rifle (M&P 15-22)

 

They were there with their dads and Henry rifles. They all had a blast with the evil black gun.
