Exit 98 0 Posted May 23, 2013 Hi All, So I’m a newcomer and as soon as I got my FID and P2P I ran straight out to make my first purchase(s). Originally, I set out to just buy a handgun and once I found out that there was a 16-day wait for the background check, I decided to double up and also buy an AR-15 (on a complete whim). Handgun purchase aside (I’m totally satisfied with it), I wasn’t too familiar with AR’s and the different models and pricing. Admittedly, I was unprepared and was just excited/pumped to be buying my first guns (in hindsight I should have done my research, which I’m fully aware of and kicking myself in the ass for not doing). Again, I was “in the moment”. Anyway, I ended up buying the M&P15 Sport™ - 10 Round Magazine, Fixed Stock (the NJ-compliant model). Once I took possession (after paying and the background check), I THEN did my research – reading up online, watching YouTube videos…all the stuff I should have done PRIOR to making my purchase. Bottom line is, I think I way overpaid (I won’t name the shop where I bought it…just in case I’m way off base). S&W’s MSRP, as noted on their website, is $839 (and, yes, I’m aware that’s the suggested price and that the dealer sets the actual pricing), but I paid a lot more. I even read/watched online of guys saying they bought it for as low as like $650, which just goes to show what the wholesale/manufacturer’s price is considering that the retailer had to have baked in a profit. So I ask you guys – what is the current “market” price for this gun in today’s world (I’m fully aware that prices have been inflated due to the current social climate)? Without saying how much I paid, I’m curious what you guys (i.e. the more experienced/knowledgeable folks) think. Plus, if/when things get back to normal, will prices overall come back down and I should have just waited? I can keep on going, but it’s just me pissed for being an idiot who possibly got hosed. Thanks in advance.
Bambinomontana 0 Posted May 23, 2013 I just saw one on slickguns.com for 729, yes you overpaid, but to get one in stock is also real hard now-a-days. The best price I have seen them for is about 699. You may have even lucked out if any of these pending legislation would actualoly go through. Just enjoy them and stop worrying bout it soo much, wait till you see how much fun to shoot they are.... illy 1 Posted May 23, 2013 Future FYI: Unless it's something that's really hard to find, you should be able purchase most guns below MSRP.
dajonga 397 Posted May 23, 2013 EXIT, Don't beat yourself up. It's only money & they will make more. Enjoy the gun and relax. My first big rookie mistake in a new hobby was much, much more expensive and painful.
savageshooter 10 Posted May 23, 2013 You bought a great gun, enjoy it. I have a bit over 500 rounds through mine without a single hiccup. As far as overpaying, well we've all felt that way one time or another. A few months from now it won't make a difference. People were paying $2000 or more for AR's that normally go for $1000 not too long ago. Shoot many rounds, love your gun.
Exit 98 0 Posted May 23, 2013 Great responses. Thanks, guys. I just have to stop thinking about it and chalk it up as a rookie mistake (as well as a reason not give that place any future business...I'll refrain from trashing them though). This one may very well be the first of many for my collection. Thanks again!
XDJohnTact 49 Posted May 23, 2013 There is a big difference in pricing between 6 months ago and now. With the post Sandy crisis, ammo and guns became scare and many shops were charging way over MSRP. It is a supply and demand issue. In time this should pass but like you said, you were "in the moment". Like others have said, it is a great gun and you should enjoy it. Blacksmythe 71 Posted May 23, 2013 Prices right now for ammo, AR's, AK's and surplus rifles are over priced. Its a supply and greed issue. Its a great rifle, a dependable rifle. dont have buyers remorse over it. You needed it and it was available.
Sludog 0 Posted May 24, 2013 Just don't pay $150 for a brick of .22 lr. That is something you will regret and just plain crazy. Lol

Dr Bocci 0 Posted May 26, 2013 I bought mine about 6 weeks ago. Paid 850 not including tax and tip, er NICS. Wanted to kick myself because I could have gotten one last summer for 699. But I didnt want to be left out in the cold should the morons under the golden dome further screw with our rights. So I sucked it up and bought it. Now back at the same shop it is going for 750. What can you do. You and I wanted something that every one else wanted when everyone else wanted them. It's ok, I have moved on....to overpaying for ammo. tommyfeds 2 Posted May 26, 2013 I may have overpaid a bit for a second hand MP15T during almost the hight of the "panic" I don't regret it at all. I am very happy with it and even happier just knowing I have one. Enjoy it! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
Clintoon Eastwood 2 Posted May 26, 2013 As long as you didn't pay over $820 including NICS and taxes, you are fine. I hope you didn't, hey look at this this was.... Clowns on here actually paid $800 plus for a saiga that cost $400plus. Does that make you feel any better yet?
Bob2222 317 Posted May 26, 2013 Bud's lists an M&P Sport -- not the compliant version -- for $1,049.00, and it's "out of stock" so there is still a lot of demand at these prices. I wouldn't worry about it. It's an AR so there's plenty of opportunity to spend even more money on accessories. Just don't show your wife all the receipts. Exit 98 0 Posted May 30, 2013 So after reading the first couple of responses saying that I should just get over it and not to sweat it, I made the decision to just put it behind me and move on. Perhaps I shouldn't have have checked back and read the additional responses. Now seeing that some of you have paid $529, $710, $750 (and let's not forget Clintoon's "as long as you didn't pay more than $820" comment), I now feel sh*ttier than I did before. Ok, for the record - I paid over $1,100. Yes, I know (especially now), I'm a bonehead. I should have done my research. But I just can't believe that the shop/range I bought it at would price-gouge that much...especially since they're supposed to be "reputable". Talk about taking advantage of a newbie. I actually want to go back there and tell them off (again, I realize it's my fault and the whole "caveat emptor" idea) but what a dick move by them. Sh*t, I practically paid double what was referenced above. But, for the same reason I'm not going to talk sh*t about them in this forum (the reason being: what good is it going to do) what would they possibly say if I went back in ("sorry, here's a $500 rebate). I just can't get over the sheer amount that they "overcharged" and, well, screwed me. Not to sound like a fruit and be over-dramatic, but I feel violated. Ha. This was the first range/shop I had ever been to and thought everybody was helpful/friendly and I felt very comfortable. I even planned on making this my "home range". Now I just feel like they're shysters and don't want to give them future business. Agh!! Ok, I'm done for now...until the next round of comments make me even more pissed off. Ha. Monmouth Arms, I'll be sure to come to you first when it's time for my next purchase.

aguilar64 9 Posted May 30, 2013 Don't feel bad, just to let you guys know, about two months ago Jerry's Sports Center was selling them to dealers for about $999.00 http://www.jerryssportscenter.com/Home.asp
Exit 98 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Where do you live if you don't mind me asking? We can tell who robbed you... Heck ya you should put them on blast!!! Did my screen name give away my location? Ha. I guess my subtle hints as to which shop it was weren't so subtle. As for aguilar's comment, I was thinking that could have been the case in my situation from the get-go (trying to give them the benefit of the doubt) but who knows. Just have to move on and enjoy it...what goes around comes around. Thanks again, folks.
jermz1987 243 Posted May 30, 2013 Most of us at one point or another overpaid for a gun. I know I have. So dont feel bad. In the end you still got an awesome AR that will give you hours of enjoyment in the up coming Zombie apocolypse. Better to be the guy who over paid for a AR then the guy without an AR. What pistol did you go with?

KyleKap19 3 Posted June 18, 2013 Overpaid, but I overpaid -- as someone said above "don't have buyer's remorse over it" -- it's a damn fine rifle for a beginner and one I've loved ever since I shot it. You can dress her up real nice too -- get ready to open your wallet!
