vets defy shutdown...

Recommended Posts

Who the heck is anyone to tell a group of ww2 vets they can't look at their memorial. Good for them. This is the type of civil disobedience no American can be against.

I disagree.

Another group that defied the shutdown is the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. From a facebook post:

IMPORTANT: While the NFFF offices in Emmitsburg have moved to the Emmitsburg Volunteer Ambulance Company building due to the government shutdown, we can still be reached at 301-447-1365 and continue to receive mail at PO Drawer 498, Emmitsburg, MD 21727. More updates later this morning.

Its good to see some Americans will go out of their way to help those who served their country.  I would bet the parks police won't do a thing to force anyone to leave the grounds either.

Credit where due -- I watched Rep Steve King distract a park police officer while vets and staffers knocked down the fences here,

Rand Paul put it best. He said something like "Some idiot thought it would be a good idea to waste money by putting up barricades around an open space."

+100. I completely understand shutting down concessions, tours and things that need to be staffed. But seriously, how petty is our current administration that they would throw barricades around open spaces on the national mall?

Lets see if I understand this....a monument that is usually open to the air 24/7, open to the public to just stroll around, and very lightly manned (usually just security) by the Park Service is now barricaded-off, with the barricades monitored by security???

Am I missing something here?

The plot thickens,,,,the Obama Administration DECIDED to block the memorials.  the National Park Service reports

"The Park Police, nominally in charge of monitoring these spaces, isn't even effected by the shutdown."

And it gets better....

The National Park Service has ordered the closure of a Virginia park that sits on federal land, even though the government provides no resources for its maintenance or operation.

This is just like the sequestration nonsense....where the Obama Administration sent out directives to make it as painful as possible....
