Gonna order a 1911

Recommended Posts

How has STI not been mentioned yet?!  My Spartan is probably my favorite pistol to shoot.  Springfield is also catching up on their production of Range Officers, another well-built 1911 that won't break the bank.

This. Spartan, Trojan, etc.. all great guns built to be run hard.

I saw awhile back that Sig was coming out with a Max Michel model and it is now out. They say it's ready to run in SS. Its has EGW sear and pin, Koenig speed hammer and a Dawson ICE mag well. The price is $1288. The link below is to the sig web site. Buds has them in stock...

I had my eye on one for a while. If I were to get a 1911, I'd probably get a Dan Wesson stainless Valor or Specialist. They can be hard to find, though.

I gave-up on trying to find ANYTHING local anymore. I buy everything through Gunbroker or Gunsamerica and have them sent to my FFL of choosing. I would say 90% of my handguns have come via that method.

I think it depends on how specific your tastes are. I'll always give the local vendors a shot through the price request first.

I just checked Buds them have the nightmare for $940. I think the MM model is a better deal if you are going to be shooting SS, if not then it is just whatever looks better. I like the rounded grip on the nightmare.

I have the link below from their traditional models and it has been perfect with all types of ammo plus I love the way it looks!!! You get a lot of gun with Sigs 1911's!!

I don't shoot any type of speed shooting at all. But I want a gun that can take abuse if I need to give it. Chances are I won't and this will sit in my safe and just be brought to the range. I don't plan on carrying it. I have other guns for that.

Get an STI or Springfield Range Officer from Dawson Precsion.

Have their gunsmith take the gun apart, inspect it and clean up anything sloppy. Have them test fire it. This will cost a couple hundred dollars more but its worth it. Much better to have a gun certified by a pro shop like Dawson then just buy something off the shelf and hope all is perfect.

Shawn, you should definitely read these articles by Hilton Yam before buying anything. I know you aren't buying a "duty" gun per se, but I am sure you would want the same quality and reliability that you would find in a gun suitable for daily carry in defense of yourself and others.

A guy local to me has a stainless colt rail gun and a sig nightmare. I'm gonna go hold em both tomorrow and see what I like better. I'm ready articles that say the sig is better and I read articles saying the colt is better. They are close in price. So I gotta hold em both.

Owned both Colt and Sig 1911's at one time or another. My vote would be a Colt with a series 70 trigger.  Plus every other 1911 ever made is a copy of a Colt...Just sayin...

Happy Thanksgiving.
