Got A Range Rover? Apply For CCW.

Recommended Posts

You have an imminent need. This is the fifth Range Rover carjacking in NJ in 2013. Now finally a victim has been killed. So if you have a Range Rover you are a demonstrable target.

I'd love to see someone try this.

OK, I know. Faint hope.

It's sick that our state defines justifiable need so narrowly.  How about, "There have been a lot of carjackings (and other shootings), and I fear for my life."

When are we going to be allowed to defend ourselves against these predatory dirtbags?

A Subaru was seen fleeing also. Very typical of the area. I've been around the Subaru scene for a long time and went to school in Newark. The thieves love to take Subarus as their dirty work cars. Scum...

As the recent owner of a new Forester, that doesn't make me very happy to know.

It's a disturbing trend that more people are killed for their property. Normally thieves want the car but not the murder or attempted murder charge. I don't know if he resisted and was shot or they just shot him and took it. Either way it's a shame that people can't protect themselves. Also shows the lack of situational awareness people have. I'm surprised the car was dumped and isn't on a ship to another country

Hmmm African Americans ,Newark, go figure. They killed the guy over a frigging car, now his wife has to relive those moments for the rest of her life. The families

are forever traumatized .

I believe in public executions, i want to watch these two thug scumbags die ..

You have to be diligent and hyper aware of your surroundings . The fact that the POS politicians have security and we have no way to protect ourselves

makes my blood boil!.

I am not now nor will i ever be politically correct.

Killing people simply to avoid leaving witnesses during robberies is as old as robbery itself. Happened to a kid we knew working at a gas station during the 1980s, happened to a neighborhood family when their house was robbed in the 80s as well.

As far as lack of situational awareness is concerned, he had no way to fight back. If they were hiding and waiting for the car owner, then drew on him, he was SOL.

Apparently he resisted.

As the recent owner of a new Forester, that doesn't make me very happy to know.

They mostly go after the WRXs and STIs, but since parts can (or at least used to) cross over a lot, be smart about your security! Or if you have a non-turbo one, you're generally good to go.

They banged up the side of it and shot out the back window. Too much damage to make it onto a ship. It was all for nothing.

Was probably just for a joy ride. I've seen that happen around the area. They'll just speed around 78, GSP, NJTP.

This.  Unreal that this guy lost his life for absolutely nothing.  I'd be willing to bet after they ditched the car they went to McDonalds and the animals didn't give it another thought...

And number SIX happened in South Orange Sunday night. This time the carjackers made a house call.

If I personally owned a Range Rover, regardless of where I lived, I would be on alert for any other cars following me. Especially to my home.

Of course if the thieves would be considerate enough to follow me into my garage...

(OK, yes I know all the scenarios that would work against me. But I enjoy Hollywood once in a while too.)

Good job there DD. Nice cleanup of the particulars too. I only looked in 2013.

Why don't you get a part time news job? NONE of the NJ media have been able to connect the dots so far.

By the way: while commenting on this episode yesterday, Eric Bolling of The Five on Fox News remarked that he lives three miles from the Short Hills mall, near some less desirable urban areas, and that he might apply for his license to carry. I emailed him that he will have no luck with that application, unless he has some financial and/or political connections he can leverage. I also told him if he wanted to make a NJ project out of it I'd be happy to guide him through it.

No response so far. I'll be very surprised if I get one.
