Increased Sales Tax on Guns and Ammo

Recommended Posts

Funny part is where it says it will help fight crime. But what they really mean is to bury us so deep we want out of the hobby... Fook them... I pay taxes that includes fighting crime. We all do!

Oh and where she says we have to pay for it. Not we, us, the gun owners. She won't pay shet because prob not even a gun owner So we law abiders get to suffer more. Cross fingers CC tells them to F-Off!

From http://nj1015.com/nj-congressman-wants-tax-hike-on-guns-and-ammo-audio/

The Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act would:

  • Increase the excise taxes on firearms from 10%-11% to 20%.
  • Increase the excise tax on ammunition from 11% to 50%.
  • Exempt all US government agencies from tax.
  • Maintain the exemption for state and local governments, including police departments.
  • Increase the Special Occupational Tax on firearm importers, manufacturers and dealers.
  • Include assault pistols in the definition of firearms covered under the National Firearms Act.
  • Increase the transfer tax on all weapons (except antique guns) covered under the National Firearms Act (excludes most common guns) from $200 to $500 and index to inflation.
  • Increase the transfer tax for any other weapon from $5 to $100 and index to inflation
  • Redirect revenue raised by the Act to: 35% COPS; 35% Project Safe Neighborhoods; 10% CDC Research; 5% National Criminal History Improvement Program; and 5% NICS Act Record Improvement Program; 5% and grants to schools and districts to implement comprehensive, evidence-based discipline systems to improve school climate.

Not just a bump in taxes.. a pretty big bump

Hopefully this follows most proposed bills and ends up in the recycle bin.  It's a House bill so I can't imagine this will get much traction.

If this is truly for safety measures that will benefit all NJ residents, then why must only gun owners bear the tax burden rather than having all NJ residents contribute?

Because, in the minds of those that proposed the legislation, it is law-abiding gun owners that make firearms and ammunition available to criminals.

Here's a good quote, demonstrating lib innumeracy: " "Worse yet, the tax rate on ammunition and other types of firearms has remained the same since 1941."

Ummm, the cost of those things has increase since then, due to inflation. Thus, the tax has also risen, indexed for inflation.

Is the idea to increase the tax *rate* every year until it reaches 1000s of percent? Maybe.

They were comparing it to tobacco and gas taxes...iirc... So they feel they can do the same to us...

Flanked by local community leaders, law enforcement officials and gun violence prevention groups yesterday, Pascrell unveiled legislation to increase federal taxes on guns and ammunition.

Absurd.

Good luck trying to implement this lunacy on federal level :D

Thank God we have a Republican House of Representatives nationally, and a Republican governor in our state, or they would all just be bending us over and having their way with us.  (Hope that metaphor is not too strong for the mods.)

Thats exactly it.  This is to punish gun owners.

This would also be very harmful to small businesses.

5% on top of the 7%, on top of the already higher NJ prices.

We would always buy out of state.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
