illy 1 Posted November 8, 2013 OK expert advice time. I don't know much about Smiths and the gun in question is being held until tomorrow:Stopped by Efinger today and spotted a 4" model 10 (same as the picture below, but better shape). -Bluing was reaaly good (3/4" light scratch just behind/above the trigger guard) -No rust, pitting, or hoslter wear at all -Lock up was tight -Timing right on -Wood about 97% -Hammer mounted firing pin -Single action very clean break -Double action a little stiff, but smooth. Not gritty at all -Bore looked clean -Trigger and hammer looked like they could use a good cleaning -Serial # makes it 1972-73 production $260 OTD Would you? NicePants 58 Posted November 8, 2013 Model 10s are awesome. $260 for everything seems like a good price. I'd totally go for it. I have one that's in a bit worse shape, but it shoots great.

AlexTheSane 236 Posted November 8, 2013 Get it. I never really wanted a revolver until my wife got her model 10. She got it used and paid about $100 more.

Sigman 41 Posted November 8, 2013 I have a 1977 in excellent shape just like in the pic above. Double action is a little heavy, but it's a great shooter. The grip is on the smaller side. I say go for it.

illy 1 Posted November 8, 2013 Well I went back tonight and it turns out I was wrong. Square butt, not round. Of course I bought it anyway. Pics to follow...
NickySantoro 211 Posted November 9, 2013 Well I went back tonight and it turns out I was wrong. Square butt, not round. Of course I bought it anyway. Pics to follow... Personally, I prefer the square butt with the 4" barrel. About the stiff DA, take off the sideplate and take a look at the grease. It may have hardened up a bit after 40 years if original and the plate has never been off.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted November 9, 2013 Put a set of K-frame rubber Hogues on it and it won't matter what butt configuration it is. It was a great buy.

GRIZ 3,369 Posted November 9, 2013 Don't use grease to lube the innards of revolver. Flush out the guts with Gunscrubber, let dry, then lube with Break Free or something similar.
illy 1 Posted November 9, 2013 I'm a frog luber, myself. It's getting the full take down, detail cleaning and minty lube tonight.
GRIZ 3,369 Posted November 9, 2013 If you take the side plate off, flush it with Gunscrubber, and everything looks okay there's no need to tale it completely apart. Just lube put the sideplate back on.
