2014 Firearms Goals

Recommended Posts

Happy New Year. With the new year comes new opportunities for personal advancement in the shooting sports.

What do you want to do, Firearm Related, before 2015?

I want to classify Sharp Shooter or expert in all 5 Divisions of IDPA.

I have not hit enough classifiers in the past to get all 5 divisions.

I want to work on my Winchester NRA classifications.

I want to classify Distinguished Expert in Handgun and Defensive Pistol 1 and 2.

I also want to make Distinguished Expert in Sporting Clays.

I want to improve my rifle shooting and get my NRA Rifle Instructor cert (I have shotgun and pistol).

To Advance the sport I am going to hold more classes. My goal is to get 10 people shooting who have never shot before.

Finish the R&R gun projects.  Not start any more of those projects. Get rid of a few more safe queens and use the money to get a couple of new pistols.  Been a long time since I had a new pistol, could use a new CCW and hand cannon.

Make time to shoot more, especially in scheduled events.

It's going to be a shoot more, less gun buying, refinishing year.  Want to get my money's worth out of those range memberships.

Lots of time on the reloading press and the firing line.

I'm like T Bill. I want to buy less, shoot more. I am planning on shooting at least 2 matches a month and hoping to get to the range at least once in between each match. I have stocked up on reloading supplies for my chosen pistol and am pretty ready to go. I'm looking forward to enjoying the sport of shooting a bit more as opposed to preparing for the worst case. I would also like to become an NRA certified pistol instructor. I would also like to get out on a hunt this year(first time) either piggies down south or local deer.

My general shooting goals remain the same: I want to be a better shooter tomorrow than I was yesterday.

Specifically, I want to take more classes this year: specifically EAG Shoot house and FOF, attend DARC, and a get in a PMac class or two... Also I want to shoot in at least one comp a month.

Gear wise I need a bigger safe and I want to build a workshop in the new house (should be closing in a week!)

Hoping to get CQB certified with our SBR's and MP5's at work

I also need to practice sporting clays

What certification do you need for CQB?

I have about 3 or 4 goals

1.  Shoot more.  This of course means i need to buy more ammo..  I would also like to shoot other people's guns (and have them shoot mine).  i would like to try a wide variety this year.  last year i tried some, but not enough.  This includes multiple calibers.  I have shot SO few calibers..

2.  Buy/Build an AR..  not sure how soon i will be starting that

3.  Buy a bolt action rifle (centerfire of course.. again, not sure what caliber yet)

4.  Buy another handgun.  Much of that will depend on what other kinds/calibers i try.  Also not sure if it will be a revolver or semi-auto..

modest goals..

My 2014 Goals:

  1. Acquire two more "inventory" items.  A compact carry handgun (most likely a "S &W Shield 9mm") and a 12G (a Mossberg 500).
  2. Shoot at least once a month (if not more) at HG, or at my Florida range when I'm in town there.
  3. Get both UT and FL CCW, and take the appropriate training for each.
  4. Complete NRA Winchester "Pistol Qualification" through "Marksman 1st Cl." Perhaps, begin "sharpshooter" quals.
  5. Take some "home defense/self defense" training (i.e. something like "NRA Personal protection in/outside the home").

Ccw course for when I visit my girls family in Fla, and go visit my sister in Philadelphia.

Compact pistol purchase of some sort, probably an M&p of some variant.

Shotgun purchase in the very near future, probably a mossberg 500.

Center fire rifle purchase.

Agree with all the "buy less, shoot more" posts. I have lots of stuff purchased this year that never made it out of the safe. Looking to shoot once a week and start honing my accuracy bc I am by no means a marksman. Also want to make it to the cj members steel match every month this yr.

1. Get classified CDP Expert in IDPA

2. Actually shoot an IDPA classifier in an expert time (rather than a match bump which I've done x2)

3. Certify as an NRA rifle instructor

4. Shoot my AR more

5. If I manage to succeed with #1, get a revolver for IDPA

6. Attend NRA personal protection inside & outside the home
