NJSigfan 218 Posted December 28, 2014 Alright jeep guys, I need some help. This past May I picked up a less on Jeep Jk freedom edition and I've been dying to upgrade the tires. I've explored the idea of adding a lift but the cost of buying and installing it plus the fact it's a lease is keeping me from going that route. So my question is, how large of tire can I fit a stock JK suspension using the stock wheels? I was hoping to fit 33s but two places gave me conflicting stories of "yes it will fit" and "no it won't fit". I understand I'll need spacers given the width of the 33's. So, let me hear your opinions...if you can recommend some tirs choices that would be great as well.
Lalo 13 Posted December 28, 2014 I'm contemplating doing the same thing. I don't have an answer for you but I offer reading material that will. I'm still doing research. http://www.wranglerforum.com/f27/largest-tire-on-stock-jk-heres-your-answer-142837.html http://myjeepwranglerjk.blogspot.com/2013/05/largest-tires-can-fit-on-stock-jk.html

NJSigfan 218 Posted December 28, 2014 OK 4WD is actually who told me it wouldn't fit "correctly" unless I added a budget boost lift. They also recommended BF KM2 for a total cost of just under 3k. Well past my budget considering this is a lease and 3rd ride fun car.
NJSigfan 218 Posted December 28, 2014 Lalo - thank you for the links, they were great. Looks like I found the size I want/need; now to find a reputable place to buy and have them installed.

302w 83 Posted December 28, 2014 +1 on BFG ATs. I also like General Grabbers for a little less money. Word of advice: loud tires are like fartcans. Don't buy them.
tony357 386 Posted December 28, 2014 I just put general Grabber 2's on my truck they last a little longer and also was able to get 10 ply.. lt235/85r16/10genowlat2 717.33 installed
ted527 21 Posted December 28, 2014 BF Goodrich All Terrain's. Can't help with size, though. I ran these tires on 5 or 6 trucks over the years including an 85 cj-7. Good all around tire and wear like iron
Mr.Stu 1,930 Posted December 28, 2014 I would be running BFG AT on my truck except they don't make them for the 20" rims I have on there so I put a set of the BFG Rugged Terrain instead. 20k miles and I'm happy with them - good grip wet or dry and good wear too. Sota 1,191 Posted December 28, 2014 http://www.goodyear.com/en-US/tires/wrangler-all-terrain-adventure put those on my liberty. they're awesome. not sure how far you are from Branchburg Tire on rt. 22, but they do right by you for price and install. JackDaWack 2,895 Posted December 28, 2014 What do you need the tires for? I have 35"x12" M/T-R kevlars on my wrangler with no lift.. it did require spacers, flat fenders and some minor cutting of the front air dam.. hell my air dam is already cut and taken off if you want it or need to cut yours and don't want to. Tire choice depends on what you plan on doing with the jeep... you mall crawling this bad boy? My jeep handles like poop on the road, but is a beast off. Also take a hard look at your gearing, i run 4.10 gears(rubicon) and its ok for 32" snow tires... sluggish with the 35"s. I know the sports come with much lower gears unless your find one with the tow package. and kiss your MPG away... i get 16mpg.
DeerSlayer 241 Posted December 28, 2014 Have a few guys in my club stock JK or JKU with 33's budget boost you can stuff 35's. I'm running 36" Irok's on my wrangler.

NJSigfan 218 Posted December 29, 2014 For the most part I'm just looking for a more aggressive / wide stance. I will be taking it off-road (Rousch park) but nothing hard core since the jeep is not armored the right way. As for gears, I'm pretty sure they are the stock 3.73 on the sport X with trailer package. Right now I'm leaning towards the nitro Terra Grappler 295/70R17 with spacers. The 2nd choice looks to be the general grabbers...
RS1200XL 4 Posted December 29, 2014 Not a Jeep, but I've got Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs on my Silverado and loved them in the snow and off road. A little on the pricey side but they have a decent tread wear rating.

I used to run Boggers, but couldn't take the noise any longer. I actually installed a system so I didn't have to hear them anymore. The Irok's are much quieter. I usually trailer my rig out to Rausch Creek or AoAA, too far from home when I snap an axle or blow a drive shaft. I actually drove it all the way to OC jeep week in MD this past august on the Irok's, wasn't too bad. Except the top speed of 67mph with the 4:88's. AlDente67 563 Posted December 29, 2014 That's the trouble with leasing...you have to really limit yourself on mods, lest they really try to pin it to you at the end (unless you buy it out of course). And forget offroading. The only offroading I do is across my front lawn if the kids block me in.
