Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Nobody is mad at the world as you put it. Yes it is a matter of fairness. The Short Hills four should be in jail for life, or better yet in the ground. This crime is far lessor and should be punished less harshly. That said it is plain and simply wrong to treat non-residents better than residents.

I think it’s more a question of the law, vs ignorance there of. When do Americans that live in nj obtain the bill of rights standards that all states ratified? Hmmn

I do not believe so.

No States to the North is it legal.

West not until you get to Indiana.

South Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina would be the closest.

Texas it is legal.

Thank you  for your "on point" reply. I'm searching for a 2A friendly, retiree friendly state to escape to.

I would say Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. Certainly not South Carolina. Not positive about others.

I know Texas has a bunch of bad local laws depending where you are at

just read another story on NJ.com about a florida women in frenchtown, hunterdon county caught with a handgun.    these stories need to be made nationwide,       NJ NRA affiliate,  WHERE ARE YOU. The world wonders.

What I dont understand is why did a cop charge a 59yo florida women,  why the F%^$ didn't just explain NJ's  F%$@ up laws and let her on her way,   That cop is probably at the watering hole right now explaining how he disarmed this lady and how much of a Friggin hero he is.

Because it' a collar - the thin blue line dont give two sh*ts about civvies....

You definitely have a point.

However they should really start with enforcing gun laws in Newark, Jersey City, Camden, etc. A local resident in our cities can get caught carrying a full auto sub gun and the charges magically disappear and they are back on the street in under a year.

If any of us were just caught with the firearm without the underlying charges we would be in prison for a decade.

You are correct. In the cities you noted the perpetrators lawyer plea-bargain's the charges down to a misdemeanor or a light felony and The revolving door of crime begins.

While this sounds like a nice act of kindness, there is a flip side to it.  Why on earth should out of state residents get better treatment than actual residents of the socialist people's republic of New Jermany.  Nothing against any individuals, but I would like to see the full force of the law used on all these out of state residents with them given the maximum sentences.  Then and only then might something be done to change these laws.  Why should you or I face the cold hand of the law but those that don't live her get off - that is plain wrong.  The law should be the law, and most of these gun laws should not be the law.

Hmmm... though I understand your objection.. who's to say we can't fight on BOTH fronts, to work for more rights for NJ residents while concurrently helping out-of-staters who inadvertently get caught in our legal quagmire? These are not mutually exclusive positions! They're separate battles but part of the same war.

Besides, it's easy to fall into the pattern of the angry oppressed. But we shouldn't do it --- aren't we just letting the powers-that-be manipulate us into fighting each other? ("Ha! If WE NJ residents can't have it, then neither can THEY!") But, that attitude shifts a bit when we think of jammed up people like this young man - or the lady mentioned in Frenchtown - as "fellow citizens" or even as "our guests". It's morally incumbent on us, I think, to help them as we would try to help ourselves... and so I personally applaud the effort.

I agree that non residents should not be treated better than residents but I don't believe that it's morally correct to harm non residents just to make sure they don't have an advantage.  If my neighbor has a nicer house, nicer car, better job than I do, I'm able to be happy for him. I don't want to see him fail so I can feel better about my circumstances.

So all you did was send an email??? Then came on here to pat yourself on the back, look for praise and donations.

Good job I guess?

Come back with a phone number or an address of someone for us to call and write to so we can really help this guy out. A donation page for his legal fees if he can't afford it.

Normally I wouldn't call someone out like you because I'm all for people at least trying to help people like this young man. But, you called me out in another thread ASSUMing I didn't know what I was talking about and you are the only person that made an ass of themselves in that particular post. I spent a lot of time researching groups like yours and including yours over the years and that entitles me to speak the way I do. Also, I'm not one to hide behind a keyboard and criticize people, I'm probably the easiest person to find on here.

I really do mean it when I say thank you for at least doing something though.

You nailed it

Also even the good guys hands are often tied due to dashcams. A buddy of mine was charged with destruction of evidence 2 years after the fact for letting a group of kids dump their pot on the ground. Luckily for him it was "fake"marijuana.

Its because they are poor impoverished youth who were lead astray by their environment caused by white men and their evil white privilege. They didn't mean to have full auto AKs, they just didn't know any better. They deserve a third and fourth chance.

I don't understand the blanket statements about cops wanting to screw us. All cops are not that way and it's unfair to lump them all together!

Attitudes like this only serve to widen the divide of that thin blue line.

Not going to take the bait & waste my time :)

We did a LOT more than an email this morning, but I guess it's hard to see it through your self-imposed smokescreen of HATE.

Please, by all means, continue your research.  If ya wanna FIND ME, I'll be at the GSOSS in Raritan Center from 1-11 to 1-14, standing under a 9' wide sign that says, "Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners".  We shouldn't be too hard to find as we're supposed to be directly next to the NRA's booth :)

Oh, and thanks for the kudos on doing something!

Not the thread to get into it about the Thick Blue Wall.

I am curious was the kid arrested by Local or State Police?

I'd rather just drop it instead of getting the thread hijacked over BUTT-HURT.

A kid's life is at stake, and quite frankly, I deem HIS LIFE and what he makes of it more important than whatever I wrote or didn't write in a thread I myself need to be reminded about.  I do however appreciate your curiosity.

Thats a dick move! Why would you wish for something like that to happen to a fellow gun owner? Unbelievable!

Because that is what they would do to any of us honest law abiding citizens and non citizens should not get preferential treatment.

Good catch but his choice of words unfortunately are very prophetic. With Murphy in office, we may indeed have non citizens getting preferential treatment!

Well let’s stay on topic. An American citizen that does not reside in nj got hung up on nj’s unconstitutional laws...

Hopefully the Governor will pardon him as well as ANYONE who was innocently caught up in our web of unconstitutional gun laws.

It would be a welcome parting gift!
