vladtepes 1,060 Posted October 20, 2012 My first AR-15. Took a while to get everything but happy so far Thank you all for the input and info! throntail mount would push your light further forward and allow you to get a good clamping grip on the front of the gun.. Bishop 0 Posted October 20, 2012 throntail mount would push your light further forward and allow you to get a good clamping grip on the front of the gun.. Trying to stay on budget Thing is, the light is a bit offset, and have stubby hands. They actually fit pretty well and my thumb is set back right next to the light. Once I catch up on everything and more ammo, will definitly explore it BTW. THe LaRue clips are amazing. Solid and ergo perfect.

checko 180 Posted October 29, 2012 Does that barrel add any functionality or is it just aesthetics? Either way its really nice.
david8613 69 Posted October 29, 2012 That barrel is from dez arms, they say it lightens and also helps to dissipate heat, I'm not an expert so I could not say but I liked the look... http://www.dezarms.com/
bbk 188 Posted November 1, 2012 Does that barrel add any functionality or is it just aesthetics? Either way its really nice. The theoratical difference is two-fold: 1. Aids in dispersion of heat 2. Makes the barrel, thus rifle, lighter. Results vary, though what I've heard from shooters with them and what I've read, the difference in 14.5-16" ARs chambered in 5.56 is minimal. There is a difference when the barrel is longer (18-20"), and/or if the rifle is chambered for the larger .308. Reason why barrel fluting/dimpling is more popular with semi-precision and precision systems. Personally, I think it's a moot point with the average AR. Better and cheaper ways of saving weight. Also, with a rifle that is already only ~7lbs, I think the focus should be on balance instead. I have to admit though, aesthetically it is quite pleasing
