dpas1973 0 Posted October 21, 2010 what models/brands of the ak47 are jersey legal?
vladtepes 1,060 Posted October 21, 2010 none.. but a Saiga is very close.. and even made in Russia to boot.... there are lots of other similar variants as well.. wasr.. PAP..
vjf915 456 Posted October 21, 2010 Off the top of my head, the Zastava PAP is legal out of the box...but it takes single stack mags and they are relatively hard to come by. A Saiga 7.62 can be converted into an "AK" style gun. Other than that, my AK knowledge is limited. Other members will chime in for you.
tommy3rd 132 Posted October 21, 2010 maybe going to a legitimate gun store in new jersey would be the best way. I doubt they will sell you something that would get them in trouble and possibly lose their FFL.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted October 21, 2010 any "ak" style rifle will be legal with proper mods. Link what your thinking about and we can chime in on if its legal, and if its not, what can be done to make it legal. Except for mags, anything can pretty much be made NJ legal. Welding brakes, removing bayonet lugs, welding/pinning stocks open, its all possible. Thats my NJ legal SAR-2. 5.45x39 with a nude muzzle and no lug(s) and a 15 round welded mag. Fun stuff
KpdPipes 388 Posted October 21, 2010 Henderson Defense has a lot of AK variants, and they will make sure it is NJ compliant before shipping. I have some of their blocked AR mags and i'm quite happy with them. i know of other folks who have bought guns and so far, i havent heard any complaints about quality or service.
dpas1973 0 Posted October 21, 2010 do they ship with the blocked mags or do you have to order them seperate?
david8613 69 Posted October 21, 2010 do the saiga restoration, its not hard, fun to do, affordable, and you will have it your way! well as much your way that new jersey laws will allow you! lots of parts and looks you can to do!
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted October 21, 2010 do they ship with the blocked mags or do you have to order them seperate? You just missed the group buy! Otherwise all they have is mags blocked to 10.
iRescue 0 Posted March 27, 2012 Is there anywhere that sells the Saiga already "converted"? Where can I buy a Saiga to convert with all the parts if its extremely easy? *disclaimer - I am totally new to rifles Hey GlennP - did you build that yourself or buy that here? Thanks all!
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted March 27, 2012 Bought it as-is There are plenty of rifles that are NJ legal aside from Saigas. I am affiliated with JET Agent LLC (forum vendor here) and we can legalize any rifle

I wouldn't say converting is "extremely easy" but it isn't rocket science either. the last time I was in your posted Home Range (ShoreShot) they had a few converted Sagias hanging on the wall... You can get Arsenal Ak rom k var that is jersey compliant. Most of their Aka that are in stock are based on saga anyway.

Classicfirearms.com has already converted saigas, you'll just have to have them switch out the big mag for a 10 rounder. And I would classify converting a saiga as extremely easy. There's really nothing at all to it. if you can watch a youtube video and follow basic instruction its very very easy.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted March 29, 2012 I wouldnt get the NJ legal arsenal, I'de get the regular arsenal and then make it NJ legal with welding instead of grinding the threads off. This way you get to keep the $50 muzzle brake and the $50 front sight base intact.
RedBowTies88 41 Posted March 29, 2012 I find those hilarious. You can get a Saiga for 350 shipped to your FFL. 900+ for an Arsenal? come on.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted March 29, 2012 Show me how you can make an arsenal from a saiga for cheaper than $800 Apples to apples. New gas block, FSB, cleaning rod, brake, the furniture with stainless steel heat sheilds, rivit on retainer, etc

New gas block, FSB, cleaning rod, brake, the furniture with stainless steel heat sheilds, rivit on retainer, etc you are %100 right.. if you care about all that cosmetic hoopla then yes... better to get an arsenal.. my Saiga gas bock works fine.. as does the FSB.. Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted March 29, 2012 Yes, but Im saying comparing apples to apples. Redbowties comment can be misinterpreted as saying you can buy a saiga for $350 and get the same thing as an arsenal for less money

tony71 1 Posted April 1, 2012 Ok, first off can some one please tell me how I am going to get a non NJ compliant AK and work on it myself? Did I miss something here? I have both Arsenal and Saga and they both shoot nicely. I really don't mind the stock handguard (actually I like it more than standard ak allowing me to grab it further out ). But, not having that heat shied becomes very challenging experience after three mags ( no im not doing the hillbilly mag dump). I don't own a dremel tools nor do I have the time to tap the bullet guide and open up the mag well. For that Jersey compliant Arsenal works well.
intercooler 41 Posted April 7, 2012 you can't do that...has to be compliant when it is in your hands....unless you have an FFL. You can buy a non compliant model as long as it isn't "named" and have a FFL/Gunsmith make it compliant PRIOR to being transferred to your possesion....
JETagent 1 Posted April 8, 2012 Correct. You can get a non compliant model shipped to an FFL and the FFL then must make it compliant before transfering it to you. We offer this service if you are interested. All welds done are with TIG.
almiz111 26 Posted April 9, 2012 This post is starting to look like many others. Hey let's all argue about this because I am smarter than you. My way is better, no, it is best. LOL. So anyawy here is one real answer to the original queastion. OFF THE SHELF NJ Legal Saiga AK from Arsenal, Las Vegas. Buy it from K-VAR or Shore Shot. If you have less dough and like to build and create, then follow Vlad. Nothing wrong with that.
Tactical Turtle 11 Posted April 9, 2012 Brick armory had about 7 in stock the other day, not sure of the brand, they all had wood furniture
petros600 12 Posted April 10, 2012 if you want to spend some $$$ here are some rifles to consider http://www.firinglineoklahoma.com/akrifles.html or Arsenal SA M-7 Classic:http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17006&cat=355&page=

SW9racer 262 Posted June 10, 2012 This has me interested. Do these Saiga's come in .223 (I would like to not get into another calibur)? And which model is the closest looking to the AK? Do any of them come with wood?
vladtepes 1,060 Posted June 10, 2012 i am building a 223 Saiga as we speak.. it MIGHT take AR15 magazines when I am done with it.. still undecided..
