Lecky 1 Posted December 6, 2012 Hi all, fingers crossed I will have my purchase permits in about a month. My first purchase is going to be a 45, I would like a double action as I owned a Glock 9mm before and really enjoyed it. I was hoping to get some opinions on what to purchase. Thanks
alec.mc 180 Posted December 6, 2012 You want double action? Look no further than a Smith and Wesson 625 Revolver
Steve_G 51 Posted December 6, 2012 Wait. You mean there are other .45's besides the 1911? Can't be. Check out the Springfield XDm 45, M&P 45, Glock 21(?), for starters, see which one you like the best.
diamondd817 827 Posted December 6, 2012 You liked the Glock 9mm, then you will love the Glock 21 Gen4. 13+1rds of .45.
reloaderguy 30 Posted December 6, 2012 Don't buy a Glock. Save your money and buy a real gun!
Damjan 73 Posted December 6, 2012 G21 gen 4 is the way to go........... I also did get a 1911 afterwards.......so i advise you to get both

Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted December 6, 2012 If you are only going to own one revolver, or one .45, make it a 625 and kill two birds with one stone. None finer. JMHO Adios, PIzza Bob

45Doll 5,877 Posted December 6, 2012 Well, this sounds like fun. Being familiar with the Glock 21 Gen 4, M&P45 Full Size, Colt Government (1911) and other 45 ACP pistols and revolvers I would add these comments and two handguns you might consider. S&W 325 Thunder Ranch - 45 ACP 6-shot revolver, 4" barrel. The Scandium frame is significantly lighter than the 625 (which is a fine revolver). It has a Picatinny rail for light/laser that can be optionally attached. (Although some of the rails sold are not machined correctly and need to be replaced.) It does require moonclips, which is a pro or con depending on your posture and purpose. Unless you shoot 45 Auto Rims. Sig P220 Single Action Only (SAO) - Comes in either the full size or carry version. Ambidextrous thumb safety. A single-action trigger just like a 1911. Except it's a Sig P220. Bud's Gun Shop has an exclusive model that is also a SAS Gen 2 P220 with the SAO trigger. I am curious as to what the OP specifically means by 'double action', especially if he considers the Glock 9mm to be 'double action'. Here's where the English language should be used precisely. If trigger control is paramount, less trigger action is usually better. Thus some version of the Sig P220 SAO is the next pistol on my hit parade. JMHO Adios, PIzza Bob if you need to kill birds, then get the Governor. Covers all the 45 bases too.
302w 83 Posted December 6, 2012 I would recommend trying a quality 1911, and playing around with a Sig. They're nice weapons, and variety is the spice of life.
SW9racer 262 Posted December 6, 2012 you can also try a S&W Governor, 45acp and 410 shot. Are there any bad .45 out there?
Malsua 1,422 Posted December 6, 2012 If I were to have one handgun in a 45, it'd be an HK45 (USPs a close second) simply because the only thing as reliable is a Glock and I'm just not a fan of Glocks.
reloaderguy 30 Posted December 6, 2012 What would you consider a real gun? Sig P220. For a 1911 Dan Wesson Valor or any Les Baer or Nighthawk Custom.

JayWilling 33 Posted December 11, 2012 This has gone all over the map. If you want a 45 like a Glock, get a glock 19 or 30. They're striker fired, and similar guns are the Springfield XD (very similar to Glock), S&W M&P, or a little less similar are Ruger semi automatics, which are inexpensive and solid. Sigs are nice. You might actually find that you like something different more, so sure...get a Glock-like gun, but you'll probably want some variety later. Plus, everyone should have at least one revolver. JamesC 2 Posted December 13, 2012 No one has mentioned the M&P45 - in my mind, it's a solid gun, proven track record and in my opinion handles the recoil of a .45 ACP and even +P rounds well.
Midwest 28 Posted December 13, 2012 Hi-Point 45 acp for $160 +/- . Good points, it has never jammed, lifetime warranty and it is inexpensive.

Maybe if you found 160 bucks in a parking lot and walked into a pawn shop in Kentucky. But in Jersey, permits are like gold and shouldn't be wasted on a gun you can find in any ghetto from East New York to East L.A. Pass
