Top 5 gun shootouts in movies

Recommended Posts

Now, I'm not talking the best movies, but the most accurate in regards to firearms usage and knowledge.

Not in any order, here are mine.

Heat (that one is a no-brainer, and it's an awesome movie)

Way of the Gun (not a great movie, but the gun scenes are top-notch)

The Kingdom (I hate Jamie Foxx, but that last scene was a good one)

Unforgiven (great buld-up for that one, and the movie is a classic)

L.A. Confidential (great final scene, and I like the storyline)

What says you NJGF?

OK well not necessarily most accurate but whatever.

Heat -- Michael Mann --brings me to

Miami VIce, season 2 , episode Prodigal Son. Shootout in the WTC courtyard, When Sonny shoots down the helicopter, and the ending when they go running to catch the Eastern AIrlines flight back to Miami out of Newark Terminal B. Brings back memories.

Airport security in the old days! OK not really a greatest shootout but one of my favorite episodes of Miami Vice.

shootout

ending

Also the episode Phil the Shlll where Stan Switek shoots the TV saying "This one's for you Elvis"

IMFDB is a great resource:

LA Confidential has become a favorite, only recently discovered by my wife and I (both love it).

Any movie with LAPD carrying and shooting Ithaca shotguns is ok by me.

The time period is very special too, early 50's, not all about music for a change.

Agree with all your choices but will have to look for Way of the Gun, don't remember seeing it.

Now are you talking about depicting the most accuracy to real life training or just lead rain?

Accurate depiction:

HEAT (downtown scene and ending scene, nuf said)

Collateral, particularly this scene.

Wearing the unlimited ammo bandana (only video gamers will understand, sorry), Shoot Em' Up.

Heat was my first thought, still one of, if not the best.

Blackhawk Down and Act of Valor had a few good ones but no one mentioned the scene in the Matrix where Neo and Trinity break in to rescue Morpheus, next to the city shoot out in Heat that was my second favorite. Let us not forget the Kill Bill church scene.

Without a doubt it has to be the new movie Olympus Has Fallen - the entire movie is one big shootout. I think there are more rounds fired in that movie than any movie of all times. The movie is just one big shoot out and blood bath yet the liberals don't seem to be saying anything about it.

I thought the fight scenes(which is the whole movie) were great. Awesome movie

I agree! I couldn't believe how many shootouts and how much gun fire was in that movie... And imagine I brought my wife to watch the movie (with her being not to fond of guns and gun ownership) :)

How about walking dead?

Andrea shoots herself in the head with Rick's Colt Python.

Then a split second later we hear the clink of the ejected brass.

D'oh.

It's ok we'll clean it up in post production :-)

I thought that was the sound of the gun hitting the floor when she dropped it after shooting herself

    • I took down a deck that was attached to the house with a ledger board.  That area now needs to be re-sided.   Its a tough predicament because its such a small job, its only like 24 inches high by about 12 feet wide.  After 3 phone calls last fall i actualy got the guy who built the house to come by, he said "sure, i can do it when i get some down time".   I havent heard from him since. i get it.  its a small job.  I'm a pretty handy guy and out of desperation i could probably watch youtube videos and figure out how to patch this by myself but i think id get lost on trying to match the color and i only need a small amount of material i'd have no idea where to buy a small amount.  So i'm gonna try here if anybody knows a vinyl siding company who wouldnt mind doing what i suppose would be a 30 minute job.  I am fully aware that i would need to have his fee make it worth while for the project even though its such a small patch job.
    • Thanks for the offer @High Exposure and hope you’re doing well.  I’ll be back in just under 2 weeks and we can all work something out.
    • I bought the stainless Rossi lever carbine in .357 a few years ago, to match a bush rifle caliber to my revolvers. I'm pretty sure I paid under $400 at the time. Shoots sweet, reliable, more than accurate enough. When I was shopping for it I kept running into comments on gun forums (not this one, iirc) criticiziing the action compared to the Henrys, but I've never shot a Henry lever gun, and I guess I'm too dumb to notice any issues.
    • Interesting discussion. I have plenty of large, tall trees that I could affix antennae elements to . But then I'd be at the mercy of wind and lightning. Of course, a falling tree could easily take out an adjacent tower as well :-) My biggest mental obstacle with installing a tower is how to get all the pieces up the slope to the install point. A new tower is no doubt a pretty big expense, but I see them on FB Marketplace regularly for fairly cheap, provided the buyer takes the thing down.
    • Nice grab Stu! Beat me to it. @Mr.Stu And @DirtyDigz - Rumson is the next town over from me (maybe a 5 minute drive). I can be a middle-man and grab it if you can’t find a time that works for you guys and @Rob0115.
