I think I struck a nerve....

Recommended Posts

I have had many conversations with local cops and some not so local and always had decent to good conversation....but once I got the "what do you need..." comment I knew this wasnt going to be one by his facial expression. So that was that haha...

If I were the cop, I would have performed a cavity search on you just for DARING to ask me anything about my gun. Would have used two fingers too.

Punk.

Glove and lube or none?

or maybe he was just a prick...But I will not include what department it was. Saturday early morning, I had to be a work early (6am). I was gasing up and hopped out to get a cup of coffee. Infront of me was a LEO ordering a rather large order. I noticed he had a rather new duty belt and cuff case all nice and shiney then I noticed a Glock either 19 or 17 so while waiting he looked at me and i said ''goodmorning'' and "is that a 19 or 17?'' He then said "19 or 17 what?'' I said "the glock, I'm looking to get a 19" He didnt like that too much and said "why do you need a glock?" Ha I knew this wasnt going to go well so I just grabbed my coffee and said "have a good day" and left.

should've simply told him that you like them, and you want one.

better still, 'when seconds matter, you're minutes away'...haha, that would have either broken the ice or he could have taken it personally.

I actually get tired of being referred to as a civilian.  Last time I checked, only military personnel and militia were non civilian

Sometimes cops are just pricks, my town recently got new patrol cars (Chevy Tahoes) brand new colors and everything, i think they look really cool. I was at wawa behind a captain from my town who had the new trucks, I said I like the new tahoes, what do you guys think of them? He said thanks, and walked away from me.

NYC uses 9mm.  So does San Francisco, although with 147 grain freight trains.  But I don't think I've seen anybody in NJ with less than a .40 cal.

There are some, probably around 30-40% use 9 another 40% use .40 and the rest use .45.  More agencies seem to be going to .45 when they switch guns lately.

While waiting for fingerprinting for out-of-state CCW, struck up a conversation with officers  at police station. I asked them what they carried and we discussed the pros and cons.  Seemed to be decent and supportive.

A civilian under international humanitarian law is a person who is not a member of his country's armed forces. The question is, does the military consider you a civilian?

From you own Wiki reference:

Civilian

For other uses, see Civilian (disambiguation).

A civilian under international humanitarian law (also known as the laws of war) is a person who is not a member of his or her country's armed forces or other militia. Civilians are distinct from combatants. They are afforded a degree of legal protection from the effects of war and military occupation. In US parlance, a civilian is also considered one not on active duty in the armed services or not on a police or firefighting force.[1]

I know you are referencing Obama's usage of "civilian" recently while speaking about targets in drone attacks.

I say Cops and Firemen stopped being civilians when they became specifically targeted by militant, anarchist, and terrorist groups (domestic and international) in the early 70's. Cops became combatants, targeted because of the uniform, the Job, what they stood for and what they swore to protect and uphold - Not Civilians.

I know plenty of Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen - active duty, reserves, and retired - who consider Police to be anything but civilians.

I will leave the "Militarization of Police" stuff alone. Yeah, I get it, we are all JBT with machine guns, tanks, and millions of stockpiled rounds (3 for every person in America) and body bags (1 for every man woman and child in the US).

PS: I already got my issued equipment of rounds and bags for the pacification of my block. Get ready it's coming. If you are nice I will give you a warning before we start. ;)

I will tend to agree with most of the comments here. Some LEO's are cool; some are not. Each dept. has their good officers and bad ones; some are approachable; others are not. That is a fact of life with all people we come across. I will agree that some know nothing about their duty weapon other than to load it and qualify. Others who are into guns, like us, will engage in conversations about weapons. That is how I learned about getting my first AR. From my personal experience ones who are ex-military or academy instructors are most willing to talk shop about weapons.

In this case, maybe standing in line with others around may have not been the optimal place to ask about his weapon. I may have prefaced the question with, "Good morning Officer, may I ask you a question about your pistol"? Then see where it goes from there.

IBTL

When picking up the P2Ps awhile back I asked the Detective if he liked his S&W. He politely told me he isn't much of a gun person and he isn't out buying AR's and such because kids cost too damn much. Fair enough.

Although BLF has a few kids and that never stopped him from buying guns by the truckload.
