The first phase of Operation Overlord - the establishment of a large-scale opening into Europe - was the amphibious invasion and establishment of a secure foothold, codenamed Operation Neptune. 73 years ago, 156,000 allied troops embarked on the largest amphibious landings in history. Troops from the US, as well as the UK, and Canada, began their assault against Fortress Europe, taking well over 10,000 casualties. Although it took longer than planned, they ultimately succeeded in establishing their foothold, consolidating their positions, and opening a path that led the the fall of Nazi Germany and an Allied victory. Take a moment today and remember the men who walked into the jaws of hell and won, securing a future free from the evils of the Nazi sickness. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/world-war-two/world-war-two-in-western-europe/d-day-index/operation-neptune/ I have to qualify my guys on their rifles tomorrow. I am going to shoot a qual course with my US Rifle .30 cal M1 to commemorate the day. My Grandfather was in the 88th Infantry Division, The Fighting Blue Devils. He was captured in Italy in 1943 and spent 13 months in a POW camp. He was a prisoner during the Allied landings. If they had not succeeded my grandfather would have died in that camp.

In NJ a person on a bicycle is not a pedestrian, they are a pedacyclist. NJSA 39:1-1 Words and phrases defined "Pedestrian" means a person afoot. This is a good resource when researching NJ MVA issues: http://www.state.nj.us/transportation/refdata/accident/pdf/NJTR-1CrashReportManual12517.pdf

Follow JimmyAGR's link for records. Once you have them or if you have a copy of discharge papers (not DD214 then, a WGO form IIRC) you can send that to your Congressman and request a set of his medals. My Father's medals were lost when he was evacuated. I got a set of his medals that way. They came with his name engraved on the back. I'm not sure if they still do this but worth a try.

I believe that this shit comes up repeatedly for a few reasons. 1) Shooting involves RKBA. The context of RKBA arguments in the public eye has inherent to it the notion that LEO are somehow inherently better/safer/more trustworthy/more competent than the average gun owner. This view treats LE as a monolithic entity when reality is that most LE are not all that good at the shooting bits. Some are awesome. Too many couldn't hit the ground given sufficient gravity, distance and time. Regardless, there isn't a lot of public discourse where people make the unfounded claim that LE are the only ones capable of operating a motor vehicle in public, so it tends to not attract this shit. 2) Theres always some trainer fucktard(s) pushing a brand of "everyone who didn't do X, Y, or Z etc. isn't a REAL instructor and can't teach you anything but failure". They are of course, as mentioned, fucktards, and that long list of must have been there and done that usually peters out with "and was born to my mom on date X" and the real reason for it isn't to make sure the public avoids sham instructors, but because they are running a business that makes more money if they can establish a cult of personality. 3) We exist at a point and time where there's a cult of tactical beard wearers who fetishize the "operator" lifestyle, whatever the fuck that is. They talk shit about a lot of groups while paying people who badmouth anyone who hasn't been there and done that to run fantasy camps for them. Then they say stupid shit like competition will get you killed while doing tactical pirouettes on a common firing line. It's lather rinse repeat from when you had to wear a fishing vest and yellow sunglasses to do it. They do a lot of their bullshit as proxy, so it eventually always results in theoretical pissing matches regarding the various sides they pit against each other. 4) People get bored and talk shit.

Also, 75 years ago this week was the Battle of Midway. Four Japanese carriers sent to the bottom of the sea and a turning point for the Pacific Theatre six months after Pearl Harbor. 2,500 U.S. service members died on D-Day alone

The confusion continues I see.... And 3 posts in we learn that the real question is in regard to INTERSTATE transport. I drive a sedan, so I just use soft cases & keep ammo in a separate container buried in the trunk. For travel INSIDE New Jersey, you can throw naked, unloaded guns into your trunk & toss loose ammo over the top of them like whipped cream on a sundae and be "legal"

Agreed. Ive known jon for awhile now. And if anyone out there wants to take it to the next level. Local comp shoots are low key and alot of fun. Were all on the same boat here as to firearms. Thanks maks for being our daddy overlord.

So basically if you put a marsoc seal or any of the spec ops guys in our game. We would win. Lets say if youre classified expert master or grand master for that matter. Cause thats what we train for. But if you put an expert master or grand master in their fighting circle. They have the advantage. Thats what they train for. But when it comes to regular street and beat officers we have them beat at the levels above described. That is what louu is trying to say i believe. And i agree with that. Also yes there are plenty on the forum that can talk the talk but cant shoot the shoot or have even tried comp level. They should. Join us. Its fun We dont bite and are there to help to only enhance your abilities. There are a few pd exceptions. Like jon on the forums and a few fbi guys that do comps with us. They kick ass. Comments.

Common practice - you have a One Gun per month law in NJ If you file for a NICs check and get denied for a 30 day violation, that denial goes on a report to the NJSP and they have someone from the office call to remind, inform, ect. what the law is..............

NJ is so screwed up and it is not just gun laws. Throughout Morristown they now have painted bicycles on the road and have signs up that bicycles are entitled to take the entire lane and it is illegal to pass them. Are they crazy out of their minds? So if a guy on a bike is going five miles per hour he has the right to backup traffic throughout the entire town? This is crazy.

So I'm being shilled at by some idiot who thinks 85% of the world is right handed and left eye dominant. He's also telling me that a big window helps with night sigts. Doesn't do shit if the night sight limits your field of view. They studiously avoid showing how good the reticle looks in real world use and how well it holds zero.

Here's some info on the Great Deception, Patton's landing at Calais: My Dad landed at Anzio & saw a ton of shit. One day, when my brother & I were "playing Army" I asked to see his medals. He had a cigar box full of them, including a Purple Heart. Rifle Expert, campaign medals, ribbons, his stripes, buttons, cover, and wallet-sized photos of guys he went to war with that never made it back, some of whom died in his arms. It was the only time I ever saw my father weep. He didn't talk much about the War, 'cept to say what he was assigned to do: hump a 75 pound tripod for a Ma-Deuce (as part of a 4-man Heavy Machine Gun Squad) through the Po Valley campaign with the 5th Army. Later he was "volunteered" as the BAR man in his rifle squad. He once harvested a deer with his BAR. His outfit was on rations at the time, so venison was a luxury waiting to be plated. As the story goes, he had a fresh mag & led the deer a little too much since only 18 .30-06 rounds hit his target. Before the meat had a chance to spoil, a bunch of his platoon whipped-out their Ka-Bar's & sliced it up while others made a fire. Good eats that day. Other exploits involved stealing eggs from hen houses, fishing with a pineapple hand grenade & a net, and trading smokes for Hersey Bars & nylons that he'd use to "explore the Italian countryside" . He collected a duffel bag full of Mauser rifle actions and successfully brought them home. That's what he used to re-start his life in the Shadyside section of Pittsburgh.

My Uncle was a MP who was supposed to land on Omaha late in the afternoon on June 6. Due to the backup he didn't land until June 7th. My Father made Sicily, Salerno, and Anzio. About 10 days after landing at Anzio he was wounded (for the third time) at the Battle of Cisterna. He lost his right eye and was wounded in the leg. That put him out of the war and sent him back to the states.

Working with a few team guys, I can attest to the fact that they all advocate IDPA, and use it as a learning tool. We also have had a few competition shooters come in and give instruction. So, there is definitely merit to heavy hitters learning a thing or two from match shooters. But as many have said, intention of execution is two different stories, and is comparing apples to oranges. Shane pointed out a great point of how the operational world is starting to utilize tips that started out from match shooting, like red dots on secondary systems-- but not for the same reasons (i.e. target acquisition and speed). Red dots on pistols are being adopted in spades because of their ease of use with NVGs. In the end, its all good training-- everything else is stick measuring.

There really is no fool proof solution. Just hope they (cops, government) can get intel on who is planning something and try to stop it before it happens.

Undoubtedly a case study in courage. We owe a debt that can never be paid. As the WW2 vets dwindle in number, as time succeeds where the Wehrmacht failed, it is our duty to honor them every chance we get. Fine job.

Jon was a shooter before he was a cop. =P But to your point, I would even go to say that for many, they just want to be safe with the gun, and have ZERO interest in competing. Ie... plenty of folks drive nice cars, but have zero interest in going out to shows or racing. Matches are a cool place to just come and hang out though.

They haven't changed in YEARS, so they're the same as was mentioned in the last thread about range fees, lol! That being said, $384 annual, plus a $300 initiation fee (only HALF of which is due at sign-up: $192 + $150 = $342). So it's $342 for the first 6 months & $342 for the balance if you join in December. Dues are PRO-RATED since the club's fiscal year is identical to the calendar year. So someone joining on the second Sunday of June (that's when the club runs its' sign-ups) wouldn't pay a full years' dues plus an initiation and then be immediately subjected to an invoice for another full years' dues. Cecil, here's some more answers: 1) There isn't one. You're your own R-O, so HANDLE IT! Just use proper judgement & techniques so kid doesn't sweep herself, you, or anybody else. I trained a 4 year old by leaving the youth model bolt action rifle IN the Caldwell sand bag & pointing the muzzle down range & using a "safe chamber indicator", aka a "flag". And always having the child at your side while changing targets so no one can see a kid near the bench unattended 2) Dues is all you pay plus the aforementioned one-time initiation fee. No nickels & dimes. Show-up 8 days a week if you'd like to. Bring a cooler for lunch & don't forget the D-Lead Wipes! Hell, most members fawn over kids at the range & ask their parents if they need anything like spare targets, ammo, etc. "Here Kid, try my .22 Ruger with bi-pod & $300 scope" is quite common (with the parent's OK of course). 3) A family member that lives with you is NOT a Guest, so bring her 8 days a week. A "Guest" is an adult over 18 years of age that doesn't reside with you. The same guest with the same member is welcome to visit up to 3 times a year for "casual plinking". If one of your guests shows-up with or w/o you to shoot a league match, the league appearance DOESN'T COUNT towards their "3 allowed guest appearances". You can have UP TO 3 guests at once, but since we don't provide a R-O, YOU'RE THE R-O, so you don't shoot while they're shooting. You're allowed to bring Guests AFTER your probationary period (usually 6 months, but depends how well the league chairs evaluate your gun handling skills). So the more your face is seen at league matches NOT screwing the pooch, the sooner you're allowed to finish paying your initiation. This cuts-down on STUPID & makes you responsible enough to BE a R-O watching the firing line Lots of forum members are club members. I happen to be a former Board of Trustees member & current Match Director for the club. If you wanna visit, just let me know

Yea, it also comes with mom jeans, "dress" sweatpants and an afterhours pass to Walmart for you and your kids good from 2am to 4am. Wtf gents? Minivans? For the sake of the future of testosterone in humans, consider seppuku. Some threads take massive left turns. Call me presumptuous, but I don't think OP thought this would go here. To bring it back to sanity, here's a gratituous pic of a wholly nowhere near sensible supercar with a even less sensible chick, no mom jeans in sight:
