Firearms road-rage in Pine Hill??? Egad. I lived in Stratford when I was a kid in the late 1950s. It was an extremely uneventful ("boring" might be the approriate term :-) town, and Pine Hill was considered rural and quiet even by comparison. I'm pretty sure I recall correctly that my pediatrician at the time, Dr. Peter DeMarco, was located in Pine Hill.

oohh stratford's changed. a LOT. so has pine hill. and lindenwold, somerdale, magnolia......all of those once-quiet towns. there was a supposed shooting on chews landing rd in lindenwold last week. there's a super-wawa on fox's corner(laurel and chews landing) and there's been at least 3 armed car-jackings from there over the past few months.

that's the thing i've been saying though.......you NEVER heard  of anything with a gun in nj other than the "normal" camden/newark/trenton and other city shiit. then bruen passed. then they reluctantly started issuing carry permits. then suddenly we're hearing about "gun crimes" in nj..........and of course it seems mostly since bruen that they've been conflating gang violence with  "mass" shootings.

 

 i know it sounds paranoid....but is it really?

My wife and I stopped in at the new BJ's adjacent to Willowbrook Mall.  As the store is not directly connected to the rest of the mall, and as there were no signs barring firearms, I saw no reason not to carry there.  Anyone else been there and have any thoughts on that?

There is a mall near me with 10-12 outlying stores.  If they don't have signs you can carry in them.

The signs limit the area of no carry zones.  No carry doesn't extend itself to the areas in front of the signs to simplify things.

I did me. I can see your point about thread continuity, but to me that is something that should be handled by restrictions on what members can and cannot do with their posts, after the fact.

Unless your involved in an incident, who is going to search you? Off duty LEO's have no restrictions and they also drink, discrimination at its best towards legal gun owners. BTW, those carrying illegally will still enter!!!

I believe it is a crime of the 3rd degree. It would be considered a felony as the prison sentence is 3-5 but don't hold me to that number it could be longer.

@10X please add the Picture Show movie theatre on Route 130 in East Windsor to the no-go list. Their website doesn't mention it but they are kind enough to actually have a sign on the door.

My wife and I went over to Riverside Square Mall (The Shops at Riverside) yesterday.  Of course, I was armed. There were no signs saying no firearms, but there was a small sign saying "Code of Conduct."  In small letters under that heading, among a list of other rules like dress code, polite behavior, and such, there was a line that said "no weapons."  I told my wife that as there was no large sign, I was OK.  She did not agree, so in the interest of maintaining marital harmony, I stashed my gun in the car.

Curious how others here feel about this.  Do you agree with my assessment?  How would you have handled it?

I would have stashed. Most malls have signs exactly like this (out of the way, tiny font) and given the lack of standards it's probably best from a legal perspective. That said, my understanding from speaking with EN, is that as long as it's not a so-called prohibited place and if you honestly didn't see the sign, basically the worst that can happen is you get asked to leave/trespassed (assuming you aren't being a jerk and refusing to leave, that is).

Thoughts on a community farmers market or festival and concealed carry.  Does that qualify as a public gathering that requires a permit? What if it’s held in a school parking lot but not in the school on a weekend?

My guess is no carry at the above scenarios …

Interesting question. I wouldn't chance the school even on the weekend but what about a street fair? The law talks about a permit being required but the question in my mind is "permit required by whom and for what purpose"? For example, if the township issues itself a permit to close the street or vendors a permit to run a food truck, does that count? Vs. say I want to organize a big protest, for which I need a permit. Might need to give USLS another call on this one.

Looks like South Jersey is living up to its rep as the most conservative part of an admittedly very liberal state. Other than the casinos, I see nothing on the list in Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Ocean, or Salem (the latter sort of surprises me).

Whole Foods in Parsippany must have just put up “the sign”. Been in and out of that store and carrying for the past year.  Corporate politics….not making anyone safer.
