I inherited an H&R Topper 158 12 gauge of "...questionable length barrel". A few questions for anyone familiar with these shotguns.
. Are all model 158 barrels interchangeable? (can I just buy a barrel of any caliber and switch it out)
. Does it have to be a Model 158 barrel? (I see other H&R barrels on Ebay that LOOK the same but are listed for other models)
. If I was to have a "COMPETENT" gunsmith/machinist add the necessary length to the barrel to meet the 18"/26" regulation would it
then be considered a legal firearm? (.. at least I would be able to give it to someone to use as a deterrent/home defense item.
...yeah!, ...not MY first choice, ... but better than pointing a finger and asking them to leave!!!.. and hopefully not place myself
in a situation of possessing an item of questionable specs)
Thanks, Dave
