David Gregory used a 30 round mag as a prop to challenge the NRA's position on mag capacity. Possessing a 30-round mag in DC is a fealony. Why is he not being prosecuted?

ETA: What would happen to one of us if we were seen on TV with a 30-cap?

As much as I agree this type of thing makes gun owners look bad.

I know hes wrong, you know hes wrong but they aren't going to do shit about it. I'll be signing anyway.

Could a resident of that state go sign a complaint against him? Yeah its not a state but you know what I mean

It is possible it was a 10/30 compliant magazine, as much as I'd love to see him charged with the crime.

I believe he identified it as a 30-round. So, he was either lying to the viewing public or committing a fellony.

I think we should start a petition to prosecute Feinstein for standing in front of the press pointing her so-called assault rifles at people. She is guilty of multiple counts of both possession of an assault weapon and brandishing.

I hate defending this guy, but 1st amendment- Freedom of speech.

What?!?! Freedom of speech?!?!

He was using the mag as a prop to elicit an emotional response from his audience; essentially, brandishing it. It served no purpose to the interview. No protection from Freedom of the Press either.

I honestly think right now people are looking anything at all to bash whether pro gun or anit gun I have seen so many of these stupid white house petitions. And lets be honest do you really think they will make a difference?

With that attitude, the fight is already lost.

Does freedom of speech override criminal possession?

Do you have any proof that the prop he used was in fact a 30 round magazine, other than just him saying it was? I can say my 15 round magazines are 30 rounders all day long, it doesn't make them illegal.

He has the freedom of speech/press to say that magazine is whatever he wants- is what I meant.

When you willingly admit to a crime, no proof is needed. That IS proof. This is not covered under from of speech. If he just talked about it than he is okay. The fact that he held it in his possession while admitting it is a 30rd mag, is in fact, illegal.

Amen! I hope he gets charged.

It's a venue of expression at least. If your opponent goes there to be heard, you better go there to get heard, or you risk the chance of your silence being counted as agreement in that venue.

^^ Also reported on CNN: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/12/25/washington-d-c-police-investigating-whether-nbc-moderator-violated-law/

ETA: What makes the whole situation interesting is the response by the people. One of the phrases I've kept reading is that the anti-2A people say that 'everyone knows Gregory's intentions' (that he has no intentions to murder people) and that it makes it OK that he possessed an allegedly illegal magazine. This argument essentially shoots down the entire anti-2A rhetoric, as the vast, vast, vast majority of law-abiding gun owners have no intentions of killing or murdering anybody.

+1 Ben

Just heard that Gregory was warned by DC Police that he can not possess a 15 round magazine before he did the show.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
