the problem is they trot kids out and it's hard to vote against kids or be seen to be unresponsive to that.

Instead of griping about it online, hit the phones and e-mails hard. I just e-mailed Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell and both our NJ senators. Have you done the same? They are moderates who actually have some swing in the senate. Please do the same, Keep it SHORT, keep it POLITE, and stay TO THE POINT. They don't read the exact content, their staff just tally up the public comments and tell them "We got 125 e-mails for an AWB and 200 against it. Maybe we should think about this."

And here are our NJ Senators:

http://lautenberg.se...tact/index1.cfm

For Lautenberg, select "I Oppose" and then paste in "Assault Weapon Ban or Magazine Capacity Restrictions"

Here is the text that I used for the letter. Feel free to use it as a basis, but it's better if you tweak it and make it your own:

Dear Senator ___________,

I am urging you to vote AGAINST the pending Assault Weapons Ban. The '94 Ban was judged to be ineffective against reducing crime by the DOJ and a new ban will not reduce crime either. Disregarding the fact that this ban will infringe upon the rights of a nation, criminals will always have guns. A ban won't change that. School shootings will still happen. It's an unfortunate truth, but a truth nonetheless living in a country with over 300 million residents. An AWB or magazine capacity restriction is not the way to combat this issue. The 2nd Amendment is an issue I feel strongly about and protecting it will most certainly effect the way I vote in the next Senate elections.

Respectfully,

__________

You think they'll add seats in congress if they get a gun ban? Even if they don't I see them losing ground.

I think this latest scare is enough to ensure that the midterm election is going to see a lot of democrats out of work. It'll be worse if they pass any legislation.

You have to remember, they live in a bubble in Washington DC and cannot fathom that people out there care much about this issue. They certainly don't, they're probably deluded into thinking this might actually help somehow.

So CALL and E-MAIL them to remind them that an AWB won't help at all!

We need to think like the progresives. Wasn't Frankenfeinstein involved in quite a few scandals? And, how did she acquire her wealth on a Senator's pay? And, whatever happened to her elitist carry permit?

Its not good news. I was hopping it was still a few months away. Even Bill Clinton warned them about this. I hope a backroom deal was not made like they did to extend the debt ceiling until May. It seems our Republicans friends are spineless.

It's apples and oranges. The debt ceiling was never a real issue. It was a bargaining chip or a tool to generate spin at best. The reality is you have both Rs and Ds who want to get money spent with little concern for the future, and there was never any doubt of it getting raised. Even for those who consider it a significant issue, it's not like their is a functional alternative you could shut down the whole shebang, turn off the lights, and you still couldn't pay for the obligations despite your newly minted inability to actually cut a check. There's no solution that doesn't piss off most of the voters out there and/or result in the dollar instantly being worthless.

She may have jumped the gun with the news out of Texas today. She was hopping it was worst than it was. Striking while the iron is hot

No this has been the planned day to introduce it since before that happened.

Call and email. Call and email. Remember, most of the people in this country are too occupied with whether or not Beyonce lip-synced the National Anthem at the Inaguration. That's how dumb they are. They've mostly forgotten about guns, and aren't going to go out of their way to support a bill like this. WE HAVE THE UPPER HAND and we need to INCREASE THE PRESSURE.

Call and email. Call and email. Call and email. WE need to overwhelm the system and show that the people that ACTUALLY know about guns how much we are opposed to it.

Eeyup. Haven't seen anything on FB in the past two or so weeks about antigun stuff (more fuzzy cats and ROFL MEMEZ LOL). The only gun stuff I've been seeing is progun stuff that I've subscribed to, and even a few things that friends have posted. If we can count on one thing, it's that most antis depend on those uninformed masses with the attention span of a goldfish.
