I've been a retail manager for about 10 years, but I would have a REALLY hard time holding back on this piece of trash.

I think everyone should work retail at least once in their life. Gives you the perspective of the guy on the other end of the counter, tends to make you sound less self entitled.

 

Worked cell phone sales for a bit. People tend to be a bit angrier when their problems are compounded by being stuck as a customer for 2 years, and then you get the blame, even if it's the fault of corporate (or the phone manufacturer, or the customer). But most people are pleasant enough.

I wish it worked like that in a corporation but it would never happen if you wanted to keep your job. Companies will do almost anything to keep a customer happy, including telling them to shut their mouths and take a verbal lashing here and there and just pacify them. It gets very frustrating at times but the people with the big picture mentality can shake most of it off. I know the vast majority of my customers (over 15000 a week) come in get what they need and are more or less pleasant to deal with.

 

With that said, there is a line, and IMO this asshat stepped way over it. On rare occasions I will refuse service, usually if they berate and curse at my employees. I get paid to take that shit, not them.

I used to work with "the public" at one time.

 

I used to go to people's homes and fix their computers, as a contractor for Dell. 

 

Never really had any issues. Everyone was so nice, because I fixed all their stuff quickly and I never had much of any repeat calls. 

 

The commercial clients I used to go to, however, were a different story. Banks especially were big time hard asses. 

 

But I could never see myself working in food service retail. It seems as though you get the worst of the worst.
