2/22/14 - NICS system is down.....!!!!

Recommended Posts

To any members that may be taking a trip to go p/u a firearm today - the NICS

system is down as of this morning at 10:30am

I spoke with NICS and they do not know when the system will be back up?!?!

You may want to call ahead to see if your dealer, store, whatever is able to process

your NICS check before having to be turned away after arrival...............

Good Luck!

ps: If I get notification that the system is back up - i will post it here so you can

make plans..................

Yeah I found out the hard way also.  Went to a shop this morning about 1 1/2 hours from my house to pick up a new toy and was told the "good" news as well. Ugh.

The comical part of it, for me, I had gotten into a discussion with the shop owner about the last time I had purchased a firearm. It was last year during the gun rush and basically had to fill out the paperwork one day, then wait for over a week before the NIC's came back. As I was talking to him about this he said this new system was fast and hopefully we won't see anything like that again anytime soon.  So yes, this was all my fault for opening my big mouth.

I'll take the blame.  Today was day 31, and two days before the permit expires.  I've had a Ruger Super Redhawk waiting to be freed and I was in the shop at 9:45. I waited around until 10:30, then have been anxiously awaiting the call.  Now I need to leave work early on Monday assuming the system is back up just so I don't need to get another permit extended.

Went to buy my first gun ever today, got all the paperwork and payment completed, then find out the system went down. Had to leave it sitting on the other side of the counter so depressing. :(

Sorry bud. Welcome to being a NJ gun owner!

Here's some salt for your wounds. I made my short loop in PA today.  Tanner's, Clayton's and Classic Pistol.  All were busy with sales and NICS seemed to be instant.  If anyone wants a inexpensive AR,Tanners has at least a pallet and a half M&P Sport models in 556/223 for $556.00.
