Star Wars! No spoilers!

Recommended Posts

Just got back from the wide screen version in Freehold.

Also the first Star Wars movie I saw in the theater since the 1977 "Star Wars" (I'm not including the Clone Wars which is not really part of the story and was horrible).

I thought it was OK, maybe I was expecting too much, it seemed to be lacking.

Anyone notice any of the new screens seem to "sparkle" a bit on lighter colors? Once I noticed it I had a hard time not noticing.

I saw it twice in opening day - once in 3D at midnight and once in regular 2D that afternoon at the same downtown movie theater I saw Episodes IV, V, and VI when I was a kid.

I preferred the regular 2D version.

As a huge Star Wars geek I was very pleased with Episode VII and am looking forward to the next movies - both the continuation of the saga (episode VIII and IX) and the stand alone movies (Rogue One, etc...)

Saw it today in real 3d.

I enjoyed it, and while it was entertaining, I also felt there was something missing but I'm not sure what.  Not quite as mysterious?

That said, It's a good movie and I will see the next two.  I have some criticisms but they would end up being spoilers so I'll leave that until later.

I saw it the day after it's release because it wasn't really possible for me to see it opening night. I watched it in 2D, and I want to see it again in 3D. I know what you all mean by lacking, but I really enjoyed it, and I feel like Episode VII is just a platform to set up the other episodes. I think it will only get bigger and better from here.

Vader is Luke's father.

Episode 7 was good but very predictable. It was weak, decent to watch, but doesn't have much of a legacy feel to it

I though that was kinda the point of episode 7.... the Legacy that was once has fallen apart. Luke Sky Walker was all but a myth. The movie was light years ahead of phantom menace.

It was pleasant to watch but I felt they were re-telling episode 4 in a new way, that's all.

There was a certain silliness in how one of the heroes acquired new skills by looking up and to the side. Not fair to others unless hero turns out to be some kind of robot or they discover later they all are in the Matrix :)

I watched 3d imax and I think it is time to change how they shoot movies. Selective focus just does not work right in 3d. When subject in foreground is out of focus it becomes a cloudy blob even if you look at it. So despite of being 3d you really can only look into where cameraman wants you to look. You cannot observe a whole scene without it getting strange. This is not how it works in the real world. Also giant heads when they do close-ups look weird.

Darth Vader is Luke's father. And Princess Leia is his sister, even though he did coke with her in the Hoth ice cave and well, you know, Piney stuff.

No spoilers!!! Ban, please!!! Ha, ha, ha!!!

I thought that it was good and set up the next one(s) pretty well. Definitely beat the first three episodes, but won't touch episodes IV-VI. Now I've got to introduce the first 6 movies to the kids. Thoughts on sequence? IV, V, I, II, III, VI?

IV, V, VI, and pretend I, II, and III never happened.

IV, V, VI, and pretend I, II, and III never happened.

 That's been my plan and so far it has worked OK. He is now asking questions about Darth Maul though so I think the jig is up...

Someone on YouTube made these "Anti-Cheese Edits" and they are pretty good.

Here is Episode I:

Episodes II and III are there also.

If you are going to watch Episode I - III it's not great but it is much better than the original.

I remember, I was 11 when I saw Episode IV, when it came out back in 1977. I remember walking out of the theater with my mouth hanging open. No one had ever done anything like that before, and I, as were all of my friends, was completely blown away. I've been a bit of a SW geek ever since.

I was underwhelmed with the subsiquent George Lucas versions. He could have left off Episode I all together, as far as I am concerned.

I saw VII in 2D a couple of weeks ago, and I'm going this morning to see it again in 3D. I liked it, quite a bit more than I did the Lucas movies. I was a little worried that Disney/JJ were going to royally screw the pooch on this one, but they did a nice job of telling the story. Awesome X-wing porn too!

I look forward to the next installment due in 2017.

ETA: I've become a bit of a collector of SW memorabilia in the last few years. I have a few studio scale models of the ships, but one of my favorites is the 3D cross section model of the X-wing. Pic of mine attached, but more information here: http://www.rebelscum.com/story/euro/Kotobukiya_Spotlight_XWing_Fighter_3D_Vehicle_111581.asp

Pretty cool, for the SW geek.

I was about 7. It was one of the most amazing things that ever happened in my life. Definitely topped my first lay, and that was pretty good :)

I was 10 and was also blown away.   I also think that seeing it on a massive movie screen helped.  I don't know how big that screen was, but it was at least twice the size of the one I saw SW:TFA on Sunday.   Also, in some weird way, I think the ever so slight fuzzy 1977 film VS perfectly clear digital 2015 film gave the picture some mystique or something.   Maybe a dream-like quality?  I dunno.

A friend of my sister bought the "Star Wars" album on Vinyl, listened to it once and gave it to me.  I listened to it so many times, I can pretty much recite the script, the Jawa talk and R2 beeps. heh.  I was annoying my wife as we watched IV a few days ago by speaking the lines a few seconds ahead of when the actors spoke them.

You can just flat out skip phantom menace. Nothing that interesting happens. Clone wars was when the real story actually starts and leads to the development of the Empire in 4-6.

The only good thing about TPM is Maul and the light saber battle.

And the coolest thing recently is the quad-copter millennium falcon

Does anybody know if Carrie Fisher banged anybody from the cast in real life? She said they were doing coke on the set, but she didn't say who "they" were.

She said herself she was so coked up back then she doesn't recall and probably did.
